Hunt? Because you can?

I recently had the chance to fire a new S&W .500 Revolver...
The only thing I could say for like 10- minutes was 'Damn'

Seriously though, the Springfield XD is a far more comfortable gun then either of those (IMO, I handled both a the local gun shop) and quite a bit cheaper (in the HK’s case anyway).
-An XD is my next planned firearm purchase in fact. :p

On top of that a .45ACP version of the XD has just entered production, making it available in 5 calibers. (Other’s 9x19mm, .357SIG .40S&W, .45GAP)

Seriously though, I would suggest that anyone looking at these guns go to a shop and handle each of them, fire them if they have a range, and make a decision based on what feels comfortable to them.

Just sounds like a weak ass excuse to have handguns. But what the hell do I know, I don't hunt.

It is. But hunters are subject to very strict laws on how to handle and where to keep their guns, so I guess they can be trusted with them.
If they really wanted to kill someone they could use their rifle, and in a stressful situation they're probably not going to go through the trouble of opening their gun safe, then opening their handgun safe within the gun safe (that's how you have to keep handguns and they can come to your house and check it), take out the gun, load it and then shoot their cheating wife.

Also, a DUI is enough to lose the hunter's priviledge to gun ownership over here.

Well, I can't argue with that logic.

No?

a 9mm is a .35 bullet

The typical load for a 9mm is around 90 to 115 grains
These little guys run around 1,000 to 1,600 fps with a muzzle energy in the 300 to 380 ft. lbs range. (depending on load)

A .45ACP is a 11.43mm bullet

Usually around 230gr (FMJ) with a slower muzzle velocity, around 800 to 900 fps with a muzzle energy from 350to 490 ft. lbs. Depending on the load.

Much slower but much much more ummmph so to speak.

Yep. .45 ACP is one of the best combat rounds out there, with only the .44 and .357 magnums coming close in terms of stopping power. I'd rather shoot the .45 due to the more manageble recoil. Besides, .357s over-penetrate because they're basically a 9mm with a shitload more powder behind them, and .44s are fucking hand cannons.

To achieve more knockdown power one needs more mass, rather than more velocity, as anyone who has studied the matter is fully aware. But marketing is what dictates these things, as we all know, and when it comes to cartridge innovation velocity is what sells. ~Jeff Cooper

Let's not forget the other high powered pistol rounds. :o!
Like The .41 Magnum, 10mm, .454 Casull, .50AE, and the new .500S&W that brought the title of “words most powerful handgun” back to Smith and Wesson. :icon14:

From what I know the Desert Eagle is a nice weapon, just simply impractical for almost anyone. The only people I know who use DEs are for competition and I am pretty sure parts of the PBI are issued them becuase they can stop someone high on PCP without killing them. I much perfer a 9mm pistol as it is a common caliber, can be used in pistols and SMGs, has enough accuracy and power to be of great use, and you can usually fire 3 shots before needing to retarget. Also I think a 9mm would be easier to control if you were panicing, say somebody was trying to kill you.

Here is a good list, and picture, of handgun bullets, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_handgun_cartridges

9mm really is the white trash slut of the bullet world. It's a piss-poor caliber.

I've known people to hunt deer with a .44 magnum. It's very possible.

Yeah you are probably right, my comment is pretty much based on CS:S, handguns are pretty much banned in my country.

Some yes, some no. Do you have any idea of the power of a .44 magnum? Also with the extended barrel they can be pretty accurate. Sorry but the handgun only good for killing people arguement is wrong. Mostly right, but they can be used for other things.
