How much bandwidth does it take per month to run a forum w/ about 200-400 ppl online all the time?

200-400 will be about 15-20gb, if you enable icon upload and attachments then it can be even more.

Also if it has lots of graphics and it depends what type of forum you run. IPB, Phpbb, etc.

My forum only has 18 users and 181 posts. I have 98 posts

So I can't really tell ya, but it shouldn't be too much band width if you keep the avatar size small and everything to a minimum.

I can't really give you an estimate of bandwidth because I hosted a video for someone and now half the bandwidth is gone, but mine isn't too much.

Most forums never get to that level. Is this something you're planning on making?

It's hard to get a big forum going just like that, you will need to have a popular website already.

You can make your forum more exciting by stalking all of the members using the information they submit

You should see http://www.club3g.com's stats. I think the last time he posted them it was like 170gb for one month.

I wouldn't even be able to post the link here...you can ask him for it... :paranoid:

Example of a local forum: http://www.montrealracing.com/forums/

The guy who runs it lives like 5 minutes from me... Around here if you make a site that exploits a popular topic (ie cars) and its local, potentially you can get a huge amount of traffic. You just need to find that particular popular topic.
