Boardwalk Empire
Re: Boardwalk Empire
Season 3 is a couple episodes deep. Starting off a bit slow, but I have no doubt the pace will pick up as the killings do the same. The new bad guy (the Italian, can't remember his name) is fun to watch. Good stuff.
Re: Boardwalk Empire
This season is sloooow. There's really just one exciting scene per episode, and then it's more talk and boring dialogue. Plus, Nucky is hung up on this actress and has a new found interest in Broadway musicals. Yawn.
It's still good TV, but it needs to pick up the pace, or I'm gonna fall asleep...

Re: Boardwalk Empire
Any other of you fuckers still watching this? I am still loving it and can't wait for the next season
Re: Boardwalk Empire
Halfway through S2 at the moment. It's not bad, but not of the same calibre as stuff like The Wire or Breaking Bad. Steve Buscemi is disappointingly stiff and awkward at times.
Re: Boardwalk Empire
Season 3 was slow to start, but I thought it ended strong. It seems they really want to start next season with a clean slate, which I think is a good idea. I'll keep watching...

Yeah, almost like he's...acting the part.U4EA wrote:Steve Buscemi is disappointingly stiff and awkward at times.
Re: Boardwalk Empire
Yeah I was gonna say, I think that's how Enoch was historically described. So he's probably spot on...
Re: Boardwalk Empire
There's a difference between the character being stiff and awkward, or the actor/acting.
Re: Boardwalk Empire
Yeah, but don't you see the difference between him playing Nucky in BE, and his acting in Fargo or Reservoir Dogs? There's a lot of versatility there.
You'd say the guy's ratty, bugeyed physique almost *destines* him to only play subservient roles.
But at the same time, there's an obvious great intelligence there.
And that shit gets tapped in Broadwalk Empire, and however stilted or stiff, it's believable.
Steve Buscemi owns that shit.

Re: Boardwalk Empire
I like Buscemi more than most people [especially in Reservoir Dogs], and he's a great actor. Which doesn't necessarily translate into every single performance of his being stellar. Nor did I imply that every scene with him as Nucky is bad. He's got some great stuff in Boardwalk Empire, my favourites being [SPOILERS] when he's telling Eli off on the phone after his betrayal and the later argument/fight.
At the same time, there have been a number of times when it has been very immersion breaking. Like you don't see Nucky anymore, you see an actor delivering some dialogue, stiffly and awkwardly.
I'm sorry you don't agree.

Re: Boardwalk Empire
No point arguing about taste. Still, I do
I just don't understand any dislike about how he portrays this character.
He's consitent, and I never feel immersion is broken in scenes with him.
I dare you to name another actor who would portray Nucky better than SB.

Re: Boardwalk Empire
Well? No one had anything to say about this season? The Dr. was a fun character, one I loved to hate. And the whole FBI aspect was a great addition to the show...
Re: Boardwalk Empire
like past seasons it was a show worth somthing.
very well done , high high quality

Re: Boardwalk Empire
I didn't think too much of season 4, though it was always gonna be hard to beat Gyp's character. I will watch season 5 for sure
Re: Boardwalk Empire
well its all wrapped up now.
it all resolved and kinda threw in a bigger message at the end (i like those so i'm ok with it).
steve buscemi is great at what he does.
all in all i feel it was very good and very well done like most everything hbo does
