He must have had a few automatic rifles. He's planned the whole operation properly. Best thing is that he didn't an hero before the end like a pussy.

assault rifle and a pistol amongst others according to the news. don't forget that in real life with an unarmed target you can probably take the time to line up your shots and optimise them for a crowd. it'd be like playing railgun vs gauntlets with timescale set to 0.25.
the news also says that 21 years is a maximum sentence in norway, that can't be right.

Re: virginia tech shooter....
just heard the norwegian PM say he "hopes norway will remain a free and open society". given that this depends largely on what *he* does next, this sounds like the prelude to driving a freight train through norway's civil liberties, for no real purpose other than to look like they're doing something, even if that something is totally ineffectual, because you can't legislate for nutjobs

You were rooting for throwing more guns into the equation hoping that would solve things. How about not putting any guns into the equation at all?4days wrote:maybe it isn't, i don't know the gun laws in norway - that was just the first pro-gun thing than came into my head. for all i know, norwegians are given an assault rifle and a stack of porn when they turn 16 (might be getting them mixed up with the dutch). over here it would be normal not to have weapons on hand, but it would also be difficult for a psycho to get access to multiple firearms. in america, there might've been people carrying pistols that could respond (for good or bad). maybe norway's laws will change to better protect them from spree-killers, but as a result their overall murder/crime rate will rise. how do politicians decide which is better and stay in power?seremtan wrote:so why is it mental if a private citizen does the same thing?
there is a balance to be struck between trust in the state and the personal capacity to commit tool-using violence - i don't know where that would be. in the uk, we think we have american gun culture (we've certainly picked up their fascination with it) but we're not even allowed to carry knives and we can't keep our driveways clean because decent weedkiller's been banned.

yeah, where were the magic anti-firearm pixies when this guy was on his rampage? why didn't they materialise from the faerie realm and turn his guns into unicorns and puppies?Eraser wrote:You were rooting for throwing more guns into the equation hoping that would solve things. That's exactly right4days wrote: why would a british nazi kill a black immigrant when he could kill you instead? the immigrant is just happy to be here, he won't try and change anything and can be dealt with later - you might vote or encourage rationality among your white friends, you might go to demonstrations asking for more political/social freedoms. if some black fellow gets beaten up or killed, do any of you really care? with you wounded or dead, your friends might not be so mouthy. a british nazi can thank his norwegian brother if what's happened over there makes you a little more fearful and a little less likely to show your colours. when fascism next rises up, it won't be foreigners that they go for first - it will be liberals. if you wear a shirt and tie but still have long hair or ethnic jewellery, you'll be up against the wall before the black guy who cleans your office.

As for the gun culture; as far as i know it's one of those quiet close-to-nature nations with relaxed, but well regulated and inspected gun laws. So there's a surprising amount of high tech weapons floating about, but they're almost exclusively used for shooting wild animals and paper targets.

holy fuck:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_Oslo_attacksThe shooter presented himself as a police officer, who had come over for a routine check following the bombing event in Oslo. He signaled and asked people to gather around him[31] before indiscriminately firing his weapons,[32][33] killing and injuring numerous people. He first shot people on the island and later started shooting at people who were trying to escape by swimming through the lake. The shooter presented himself as a police officer, who had come over for a routine check following the bombing event in Oslo. More a fascist than a nazi perhaps...He identifies himself in social media services as an admirer of Winston Churchill and Max Manus and also of Dutch politician Geert Wilders, whose political party, the Party for Freedom, he describes as "the only true party for conservatives". Breivik has also identified himself as "pro-gay and pro-Israel". On Twitter he quoted utilitarian philosopher John Stuart Mill: "One person with a belief is equal to the force of 100 000 who have only interests."

Re: virginia tech shooter....
how do you arrive at that conclusion? what you just quoted totally negates the label 'fascist' - or is resisting fascism (churchill, manus) the new fascism? geert wilders can be called many things (a dick, for instance) - but a fascist?
frankly i think some people are trying to apply old labels to cultural phenomena that are actually rather new

Re: virginia tech shooter....
He will not be released in 15 years. He will get the maximum penalty of 21 years and then containment. He will get 5 years after he's been locked for 21, then a new 5 years after that. In other words, he's rotting there for life.
This whole situation hit me hard as fuck. Heard the giant explosion, which happened only a few km away from where I was, and I've been to Utøya several times, aswell as driving past the place each time im going to our cabinresort.
Woke up at 6am in the morning tonight to a massive thunderstorm, which I was sure was more explosions for awhile. Stupid I know, but rational thinking didnt really apply after something like this.

Uh, maybe if this guy didn't get his government endorsed rifle in the first place, this whole situation wouldn't occur.seremtan wrote:yeah, where were the magic anti-firearm pixies when this guy was on his rampage? why didn't they materialise from the faerie realm and turn his guns into unicorns and puppies?Eraser wrote:You were rooting for throwing more guns into the equation hoping that would solve things. Re: virginia tech shooter....
so the guy will get out of prison when he is 52 and the cops took 2 hours to get to the island where the shooter immediately surrendered. keystone cops and lax sentencing.... I predict the shooter will win...
Re: virginia tech shooter....
The guy won't get out goof, ever. We countries without technical life sentencing and death penalties tend to get bureaucratically creative when dealing with the most dangerous nasties our societies produce.

Re: virginia tech shooter....
Can someone explain the rationality behind this maximum sentence of 21 years? Is it believed anyone can be rehabilitated by then? Whether it ends up happening or not, why is there not a punishment that effectively ends a persons life who has in turn ended the life of others?
Re: virginia tech shooter....
i love this guy on page 2 of that, who can't let it go:

Oh yeah, and what are you talking about? This expansion sucked. Well it might be a way up for you since you are a PvEer. I am a PvPer, hence the game is alredy dead to me... Vanilla was the best, both for PvE and PvP.
