what i don't get is: if he's a far right christian conservative, why did he kill a bunch of white (protestant) norwegians? why didn't he go shoot up an oslo mosque instead?

maybe it isn't, i don't know the gun laws in norway - that was just the first pro-gun thing than came into my head. for all i know, norwegians are given an assault rifle and a stack of porn when they turn 16 (might be getting them mixed up with the dutch). over here it would be normal not to have weapons on hand, but it would also be difficult for a psycho to get access to multiple firearms. in america, there might've been people carrying pistols that could respond (for good or bad). maybe norway's laws will change to better protect them from spree-killers, but as a result their overall murder/crime rate will rise. how do politicians decide which is better and stay in power?

there is a balance to be struck between trust in the state and the personal capacity to commit tool-using violence - i don't know where that would be. in the uk, we think we have american gun culture (we've certainly picked up their fascination with it) but we're not even allowed to carry knives and we can't keep our driveways clean because decent weedkiller's been banned.
