Phantq3dm3 - Corrosion - Maverick Competition #2 Entry

Post by phantazm11 »

Hey,

Corrosion is my entry in the Maverick Servers Summer 2010 mapping competition.

It a 4v4 TDM map, which is also great fun for FFA games.

Pretty average map you have there, sir. :D
Joking; I think from the design point this is your best q3 map so far IMO. Gratz on a great map. =)

Definitely your best and one of the best. This is contending with Map on the Edge of Forever in design, which was previously unrivaled. I'm happy there are still people like you, hipshot, cityy, shadow, sock, kaz, etc. to raise the bar time and time again. :D It keeps it interesting for us mild mappers who are watching and barely create much of anything.

Nice map! The only visual thing I don't like is the jump pad "air" effect. The top of the column just ends abruptly. I would fade it out with rgbGen vertex in the shader and alphaMod brushes.

Definitely a great map. Your use of non-axial arches will be hard to beat! :D

Good luck!

Yes! Been waiting for you newest map, phantazm11. Do you want any feedback or is this already a final version?

This is final. It will be judged as it is.

Thanks a lot guys!

@monaster: I would love any feedback you have to give. Anthem is correct, the map will be judged as is, but I believe there will be a short period after judging in which we will be able to fix things before the final mappack is released.

@obsidian:I agree with you. In fact, I will probably delete the effect entirely for the final mappack version.

great map, love the build quality and texturing. Havent played it yet but on first glance, layout seems very well thought out.

Also, posting a thread about the release over at Func Msgboard if you are interested.

The only thing I found out to be buggy is the bot behaviour (1 crash on nightmare) when they are on the stair trim paths you can see in your first shot: they would actually never go there by themselves (no items or botroam there), but when they are for example pushed there (hit her with my railgun but didn't kill her), they don't know what to do and start moving at weird angles blablabla, you know what I mean. Botclip these two sections (left and right stairs). Other than that, this map's perfect and exceeded my expectations from what I've seen on the screenshots by far, wonderful work!  Wouldn't compare it with moteof though, since your project is in another category for me, and judging your map from a sock design's point of view and not a phantazm11's somehow seems strange. This should be nothing personally against Anthem's comment, too. ;)
