Congrats man.

Before you let your wife buy anything, pick up this book for her.
http://www.borders.com/online/store/Tit ... 1889392332

If she's remotely thrifty, then she will love it. You'll love it because it will save you money by letting you know which products in the multi-billion dollar baby industry are overrated and/or completely unnecessary.

It also has safety ratings and reviews on tons of products from car seats to cribs, and gives you some background on why there are debates about things like crib bumpers.

Also, it's easier all-around to get information like this from books and other sources than from other people. Other parents (as you'll find out) are pretty invested in the way they, and their families, have done things, and can take it personally when you want to do things differently. This cuts out a lot of the bias.

My VP at work recommended it to me, and my wife has worn it out.
