Laurel & Hardy reshot their films and spoke the two or so languages it was translated into.
Thing was, they didnt know how to speak spanish or whatever it was so they had the lines written phonetically on blackboards out of shot.
So in these 'foreign' films you see their eyes dart back and forth and fluffing punchlines in monotone.

im german... tataaaa!
dub the music? what a question o_O excuse me, i mean...music is what you can hear, its rhythm, its sound, the lyrics are personal impressions of the artist ...thats not possible
i think a lot of ppl dont understand the lyrics of american pop music, but in my opinion its not important for them, they like the sound, and tbh...english lyrics sounds cooler than german or sw...etc.
music is only a feeling, different to movies. all german movies were dubbed. fact is: the sound is quite better than the original, its clearly...not so much useless side noises, completely over-worked. when u watch a movie, you have to understand the communication between the actors to understand the sense ...and when u hear music you havent, cos its irrelevant...
btw. i like english movies, but sometimes i have my problems to understand the whole content coz the actors speak unclear or fast

You realize that just goes to show how unimportant your country is and has nothing to do with superior language skills or anything?reefsurfer wrote:We dont, its ALL subtitles.. only thing that get voice overs are childrens cartoons but thats pretty obvious innit? :icon27:LeonardoP wrote:everyone does it!
Dubbed films are shit. I watch a fair bit of Asian cinema and dubbed media isn't worth the time. Subtitles all the way.
Given I speak English, I don't see how/why this would be different for any other language combination either. Subtitling is cheaper, keeps the feel of the original, and less distracting.
Perhaps in countries where literacy is very low, dubbing would be more appropriate. Aside from that, I don't get it.
