Kudos to him for his fight against communism. Really.
But what about the blind eye he took to his pedophilic subordinates? This 'great man' condoned the molestation and rape of probably millions of young boys around the world by not holding those guilty accountable for their actions.
Even after one of his OWN cardinals was accused of raping some young boys, he simply had him transferred to another location, keeping with their policy of not holding a clergy accountable, but simply moving the pedophile priest to another church.
So should the man be considered one of histories great? Is he worth all the praise and admiration of the world over for defeating communism, but ignoring the atrocious crimes happening before his very eyes?
I find it a complete paradox to praise him for his courageous 'use' of power against communism, yet he did nothing to fight the corruption and crime within his own organization.
HE the protector of people. HE the leader of the flock. HE the loving embodyment of God. Stood by as many a priest put many a cock, in many a small boys bum.

I really don't know what to think... but what I can say for certain, is that I'm getting REALLY tired of leaders commiting pure acts of evil (or not stopping it when it's within their power), under the cause of a greater good. Gee... that sounds an awful lot like another leader that's been in the press a lot the last few years....
