Bush doing damage control and being a good salesman for private health insurance.

Fuckin hell...if you can stomach listening to the cunt without strangling the family pet...Bush really lays on the bullshit.
Funny how NOBODY (including Bush) was talking about healthcare before Sicko came out and now that the movie is starting a buzz the media give Bush a free soapbox to "propel the propaganda" about the benefits of private health insurance...courtesy of MSNBC and Pfizer.

Don't forget the 5 "hot topics":menkent wrote:no mention of any of this on cnn.com
however, these desperately important stories are front page:
+Man flies 193 miles in lawn chair
+Jury duty excuse: I'm a racist, homophobic liar
+Slapped by Katie Couric
+Abducted boy ready to go out into the world
+Seven thoughts that can make you thin
+What's the right age for kids to travel abroad?
Hot Topics » Mosque siege • Iraq • Wildfires • Weather • Harry Potter • More Topics
The first two are the same story, wildfires are hardly news--they happen every fucking year, and the last two items are fluff pieces.

It's funny...every week there's at least three articles on CNN.com that deal with "effortless" weightloss articles, like the one mentioned about "thinking yourself thin". WTF America...ride a fucking bike and work up a sweat.menkent wrote:no mention of any of this on cnn.com

Also...there's always at least one article a week that tells parents what they should be terrified of and signs to look for if their kid is depressed/having sex/a terrorist.
CNN is/was/always will be a glorified National Inquirer.

They are owned by some huge corporation like General Electric or something.

But what's in it for Time Warner? CNN must be a money pit for them, seeing as nothing comes in.Transient wrote:They are owned by some huge corporation like General Electric or something.

The spin CNN puts on topics related to Time Warner assets will always be in a positive light.Ryoki wrote:But what's in it for Time Warner? CNN must be a money pit for them, seeing as nothing comes in.Transient wrote:They are owned by some huge corporation like General Electric or something.

...a company bringing a channel into life that broadcasts all over the world for free, just to put themselves in a better light? Hmm, i dunno. I think NS is correct in thinking it has to do with control of information... but even then the question why a private company would set up a hugely expensive thing like this, with very little return value, remains.
I find it a bit puzzling.

CNN makes money via advertising revenue. Time-Warner is a huge company and because of vertical integration has many business interests to protect.Ryoki wrote:...a company bringing a channel into life that broadcasts all over the world for free, just to put themselves in a better light? yeesh. I watched the replay of this at 300 o'clock last night. What clearly stuck in Moore's craw was Gupta saying he 'fudged' (.i.e. lied about) the facts. And what that boiled down to was an argument over sources. That's just retarded. All that cunt had to say was "Moore got his numbers from X while we prefer to use Y for reasons A, B, C. " Then at least a substantive discussion/critique could have followed. Gupta and his producers dropped the ball in opting for the 'gotcha' language instead of clearly identifying why they differed from Moore.
The question I would have is this:
Which country's health system does not need retooling?
I'm a Dutch citizen and the first thing I would admit is that our healthcare system (and government) needs retooling. A PhD student friend recently had a toothache and was refused by all of the dentists he called in the area. Just refused. And he is a citizen too.
I think Moore's place is to keep people aware that all of our govermental systems need to continually adapt and change. And that is a very good thing. But he does also blatantly overgeneralize too which does not help his credibility.

I'm sure that Moore haters will drool all over this, nitpick the details and - ultimately - ignore the main issue...that America's healthcare system needs retooling.
