Q3 Map - The Small Place (CTF) - Final

Post by pjw »

This map was made in response to a13n's 1-on-1 CTF pak thread, since the idea of a 1-on-1 CTF map was interesting enough to pull me back to Q3... :)

Note that I was still lazy enough to recycle (dupe/rotate/merge) an old tiny tourney map that I made, rather than making something entirely from scratch.

For each team, the map has Shotgun, Grenade Launcher, Rocket Launcher, and a slightly difficult/dangerous to get BFG (just for shiggles). It also contains 2 Yellow Armors, a Megahealth, and a Jacket Armor (in CPMA) for each team.

I spent way too much time yesterday messing with lighting (mostly sky shader and compile switches) trying to get a nice compromise between gloomy and shadowy and matching the sky, but not dark.

I also added hints and did a bit of optimizing, but since a lot of LOSs on this map are pretty long, and the map has quite a bit of connectivity, it didn't make as much of a difference as I might have liked. I'm not too stressed, since the worst triscount I could find was barely over 4K. *shrug*
Anyway, it's done.

Most of the great textures in this map are courtesy of Rorshach. The outstanding skybox textures and fog shader are courtesy of Sock, and the crate textures are courtesy of Karloff. Thanks to you all!

Nice map! The hint of fog is a nice touch too. :)

Damn, quick and to the point. This is a wonderful 1v1 map or even a 2v2 map. Plenty of atmosphere and jumpz. Pjw delivers again. Really though, awesome map. 9/10 Pjriffic.

what he said.

was having a run round on it last night against a couple of bots. will have to remember it for the next time i have a lan thing. can't imagine it being quite so easy to dominate with the bfg against real people :)

Thanks for the feedback guys; I'm glad you're liking it. I've been sick with some crappy virus for the last few days, and it's nice to come back online and read something positive. :)

I doubt the map is suitable for "serious" play because of the BFGs (and the fact that I only tested it with bots), but I had fun playing it and hoped that others would enjoy it too...

You can give the map a try at the dfsp CPMA server at airrocket.net:27963. It's located in europe/ger.

You can /callvote it.
