Best rechargeable AA batteries?

Post by rep »

I'm planning a cross-country trek in April, and I'll be bringing a small Canon Powershot camera with me.

I was previously using Energizers with a milliamp hour rating of 1850. Those were pretty powerful, but unfortunately since NiMH has memory, they die right after being charged.

The new Energizers have a 2500mAh. Does anyone know of a battery that can top this?

Bring the bear scented type... don't forget to wave your camera about profusely when you see a bear...

i don't think there's anything above 2500mAh from a reputable company yet. beware of off-brands. they start pumping mAh like cheap amp manufacturers do wattages.

"....and some makers warn against its use in their products, saying its high voltage could cause malfunctions in strobes, clocks or other devices designed to run on conventional batteries."

I guess it's Energizer then.

I'll be doing some dry runs on swapping batteries while on the move. I wonder if I can safely solder a connector rod on the batteries without risking crossing the circuit, so I can slip the batteries in the camera like a cartridge without stopping the bike?

My goal is about 120 miles per 5-hour day with an hour long break for water. That'll get me there in about 20 days.

Trek 520 with a few modifications. Seat, pedals, some custom stuff I may or may not build for storing extra water.

I'll be taking old 40 for a big part of the ride, so the traffic won't be all too serious, thank god.
