the guy's an ignorant moron. he takes a very recent version of christianity, a wet feeble liberal version found mostly in scandinavian countries than can hardly be called a religion in any meaningful sense, then pretends that christianity has always been that way. next thing he'll be telling we spent the last 2000 years loving our enemies, rather than slaughtering them in vast numbers

btw if muslims have been spreading islam by the sword for the last 15 centuries, they're obviously not very good at sword-fighting

Speaking of which, I saw a great documentary on the ivory trade in Belgian Congo a couple of weeks ago (if you're read Heart of Darkness you know what I'm talking about).

So, King Leopold of Belgium declared that all property of Congo did belong to the Crown, which meant that the local people were dispossessed and not allowed to own anything, effectively making them slaves. And the highly lucurative ivory business needed manpower, which meant that practically the entire population of Congo were violently forced to work for the ivory companies, directly or indirectly. This happened in the 1890's, a good 25 years after the passage of the thirteenth amendment in the US.

And what did the church, who with their missionaries had been at the forefront of the Western expansion into Africa have to say about this modern day slavery?

Nothing, because they feared that if they opposed the King and spoke out on the oppression and inhumanity, they would lose their ability to save the souls of the poor savages in Congo because the King would kick them out.

So they happily continued converting unsaved souls straight into slavery. Good times.
