Can't play video files

Post by I cant spell u »

If I attempt to play a video file my computer just slooooooows way down. It takes about a minute for it to process my action such as confirming if I want to end the media player that's playing the video . Help would be appreciated, thank you.

specifically wmp, and mpg. I've tried using different video players to play them but still the same results (slow down)

I installed K-lite and that didn't help much, should I try installing matroska?
