imo, some pussy laying there holding his chin, writhing in pain like he was just shot, takes away from the flow of the game because play will stop most likely. football's a great sport, but alot of these guys are either huge pussies or good actors. you pick.
I'd say in 80% of the cases they're acting. But imo it's just part of the game... I agree it takes away from the flow of the game - but sometimes that's exactly what they want.
EDIT: in the dutcho team we have this guy called Van Bommel - he's good, but not uberskilled. But he does do a few things like noone else, like committing the nastiest fouls without the ref seeing it, irritating an opponent so he'll get pissed off and fuck up, stuff like that. That makes him pretty much invaluable to the team, it must be incredibly irritating to play against him.
Same with Van der Vaart, who has perfected the skill of taking a convincing dive. It's gets him a free kick almost every time, and then there's an oppertunity for a goal. Cowardly and not-honorable? Probably so. Effective? Absolutely.
