well given the article I'm happy bout what ive read, the controls don't really seem to have a downside. reaction time, movement speed and precision seem to be a-ok is why i'm really looking forward to this.Jackal wrote:That's all speculation, and yes, it does sound fanboyish.
I'm not saying that the Revolution is going to suck. I'm as anxious as anybody to give it a try. What I am saying is that it's a completely unproven paradigm of gaming and it could flop hard. The gimmick may be good for a while but I can easily see people getting tired of it. Afterall, how fun is using your television remote control? Or how about those old plug and play games where you'd fire at the screen. Sure the DS was seen as a gimmick but it works because all it does is ADD functionality to the already proven system we have for gaming. The rev controller is going to take a lot away. We're now going to be limited to the use of one hand for button mashing while the other one will simply be used for "steering".
Like I said, it could work, but it could just as easily not work.
i trust nintendo too for providing good gameplay, since they always have, and the controller is an integral part of that. im anxious to see for myself, i hope we can get a good look on the next E3

The DS touchscreen was first received with skepticism and labelled as gimmick as well. It didn't take long for the DS to prove itself. I'm sure the same will happen with the Revolution as well.

Just because the DS has a touch screen it doesn't mean all games will use it. Hell a lot dont apart from menu's.
The Revolution will ship with the analog connection, the Wand and the GameCube style pad. In other words, everybody has the option to play their games how THEY want to. Sure, msot games will use the new fangled devices )Of which you can do any number of things with) but a lot will still use the old pad.
Think of it this way, why offer all those old classics to play, if you can only use the wand with a few buttons on its side? Pointless.
Once again like the DS, this new stuff will ADD to the existing goodnes, not take away from it. The new mario game for example is gonna be using the pad, not the wand.

I'm just amazed that everybody wants to make a big deal out of the controller - in the sense that people won't like the console because of the controller.
It's just a regular wireless controller, unless you want it to be something else or the game requires it. Then there are options for other things.
It's not like you're going to have to wave around a gay magic wand to play Mario.

Maybe Mario was a bad example - simply because it's made by Nintendo, and I'm sure their early games are going to take full advantage of the new controller.
But I'm picturing myself playing a racing game on my couch. Using the regular N64-looking controller, but wirelessly, and when I want to shift gears, I just raise the controller up quickly about 3 inches, or down.
Or playing a flying game like the SW Rogue games - and when I want to bank the plane, just lean the controller to the left or right the amount I want to bank, to make it through narrow passages.
Obviously it's just what I'm hoping for ideally, but what's wrong with that? All the negative talk is just speculation as well.

Yea me too. If they go overboard on trying to show off the new technology with gimmicky games they'll probably turn a lot of people off to the idea.
If they're smart I think they'll take a more subtle approach to it, and let the more "revolution"ary changes build up on their own once games are released that use it well.
In other words, I hope they don't try to sell the console just based on the new controller's capabilities. But Nintendo does tend to focus on gadgets like that, so I guess we'll see.

Why do you insist on making vague statements that mean nothing? "Look at the DS, its about the devs not the system."o'dium wrote:Look at the DS, its about the devs not the system. Mario 64 uses the touchscreen for maps, menus and minigames. Mario and Luigi 2 use it ONCE during the entire game.
I'm sure it will ber used in everthing at first but hell, it wont be long before it settles down. Its always the way with new toys.
