HL2 Hi-res pack released

Post by -Replicant- »

What is this:

- The Cinematic Modification adds Hires-Textures to all human
characters, some
non-human characters, nearly all items, walls and vehicles (and the vending mashine of course). (Hint: If you prefer the original Low-Res
Textures, delete or rename the "materials" folder inside the Mod.)
the screenshots are absolutely amazing

sort of, thats the original mod, whereas this is the updated texture pack- and it looks absolutely amazing in game. brings my system to its knees though :(

if HL2 runs.. i dunno why it wouldnt..

Honestly, i didnt notice any framerate drop at all, and while it does look better in parts, as a whole it seems like a waste of a gig of hd space..

It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.

I am now sick.

i noticed things like in the lab where you get your suit, you can actually zoom in and READ the monitors.. Story line chars seem to be a little nicer looking as well..

K.. go play them back to back.. its "neat" but its not OMGWTF THIS OWNS ZOMG better..

In his defense tho, its not super drastic changes and if he dont have a nice monitor, ie its kinda blury, he couldnt tell..

This prompted me to make a layered image of picmip 1-5 in quake to see what it looked like. Here's the difference between picmip 0 and 1 on Q3Tourney2:
Image

The function of picmip is slightly different to simply replacing the images with lower-res textures, but side-by-side you can see the improvement in HL2 is pretty much like they added another 2 stages of picmip or so to the whole game. Which is pretty cool.

there are also 2 other updates for it, which go on top of 2.16 (the original link):

2.17:
This is a hotfix/update for the Hirespack AND the Cinematic Mod. You need V2.16 of either the HiResPack or the Cinematic Mod installed..

Changes:
- Added more Tiles, Props, Walls, Doors etc...
- Added two new Hires-Faceskins (Female Resistance)
- Downscaled some doors from 2048 to 1024 px, because you never get close enough for Ultra-Hires textures. This will save some videoram.
- Fixed two wrong scaled textures
- Fixed a spelling error on the vending mashine

and

2.18
Another beautiful update for Fakefactory's cinematic / HiRes mod, this patch focuses on the NPC's face skins; it adds many new skins that are even more realistic then before. This patch is an update for 2.17 of Cinematic Mod and HiRes
