Would you...

Post by reefsurfer »

.. go down in salary if you had the opportunity to work with something that you really loved?
The job i got now are good payment, but i dislike it and its though for my body..heavy lifts, climbing and alot of injuries at work.

The other job is laid back and fun and something i really would like to work with.
The salary differances is around $320 a month.

edit* wrong ammount, it was ment to be a 3 not a 2.. fixed.

edit: $320/month...well, you have to ask yourself second to being happy whether or not you can retain your lifestyle with a cut like that.

Is your happiness worth more than $220/month?

Well, I took a rather big paycut when I went from working for a large corporation to a small startup company. I'd say it's definitely been worth it for me, plus we're doing better now, so I've just got a raise, taking me back to the level I had before I took this job.

Hmm i don't know....everyone wants a job where you don't have to do shit, but what they don't know is that it is boring as fuck.

I would stick with the job you have now, it sounds like something new happens everyday. Plus, it will make you less of a pansy.

If it's going to be in a good environment, then yes - definitely.

If it's going to be working under rigid control with people you might not like, and force you to dislike something you used to enjoy doing, then no.

$320 isn't as important as how big a percentage of your monthly paycheck it is. if i dropped $320/month i'd be pretty fucking sad (gg grad school), even if my new job were jerking off to porn all day.

320 would put a dent in mine too. I could probably manage, but it would be hard. When I pay off my house in a couple years I plan on doing just that. Finding a job I'm more happy with even if I make less.

I'd do it as long as my bills get paid and I got food on the table and enough spending cash for a night out once in awhile.

If you've got no family commitments do it, you'll get free accomodation while on the ship i presume?

On the flipside of the 40% pay cut, I would no longer pay rent, bills, food or utilities so I'd probably come out better.

Can't you try to ask for more money in salary negotiations? Might look like a 320 difference now but you might be able to talk that down to 250 or less.
