your UK right? they are old, probably around 500 or 600mhz, dont pay more than a few 6packs worth - or if they want more, get urself a mini instead if its just for mucking around with. I'd pay about $150aust for one provided it was full of ram and software.

Its a very good deal. It gets you off and running in practically every area of home-creative computing.

Per the subject line of this thread, an iMac G3 would be worth: jack shit

You can't load it up with 3.5 gigs of ram and still respect yourself though.

Don't touch a mac until they've gone to Intel.

When I worked for the part of my University's IT department, we gave away those G3s to grad students.. no one wanted them 3 years ago they were that bad. All we used them for was email kiosks (they even suck at that).

meh, the transition from powerpc to x86 software will take years. Rosetta, the emulation software that will run PowerPC compiled programs on Intel Macs is just bareable for low-CPU-cycles-demanding-software like wordprocessors.

I've become a Mac fanboy since i got a powerbook + OS X this year :o
fuck off sigs

Same reason I filled up my RAM slots... PPC Macs aren't going away anytime soon, especially when you use them as a tool that does the job. Intel Macs aren't going to be leaps and bounds better overnight or even in a couple of years

We gave away over a dozen G3's recently just to save us the work and expense of disposing of them. :smirk:

Yeah, there are non profits that fix them up and give them to poor people for e-mail and stuff like that. I do internet and photoshop on a beige G4 Frankenmac, it's perfectly useable. However, I had to build a PC for gaming.
