Serenity * spoilers*
Serenity * spoilers*
What a huge disapointment. What started off as a great series really crumbled as a movie. The movie was basicly good, it was good action and story, but how can you kill off like half the crew? Kinda makes it obvious they werent looking to bring more series to TV and i dont see how it can last in movies either. Im all for the dynamic nature of it, but if you kill off so many important characters, how can you expect to keep that long time connection with the fans. Especialy in a movie that is relying on grass roots to make its cash.
Im really confused and disapointed at outcome of all this. Firefly is one of the best seis i ever saw and i had high hopes of it coming back or atleast a few more movies, dont have much hope now.

perhaps. I could see joss doing a backstory episode that involved the point of view of the operative world.
Book as a young man - maybe he even trained the serenity operative (although that might seem too star warsy - but you know what, fuck it, star wars is, from what i understand, based on the archetypes, so it's the archetypes that joss would be ripping off, not star wars
)

nah - you'd be surprised at how few folks have heard of firefly/serenity.seremtan wrote:dunno why you put "spoilers" in the topic title - everyone here has seen it i'm sure
even ppl on this board tend to ignore things posted about - i know i do, for example the man-u vs whatever threads - know squat about the world of football/soccer.

it may have coincided with external interests, but it could be a valuable part of the story-universe.Grudge wrote:I didn't quite see the point of Wash being killed, story-wise. The only real reason I can think of is that they were planning another movie and the actor didn't want to sign on for that one.
first off, it totally made the movie darker - once wash died, it was like a message:
there is no guarantee that there will be a happy ending.
second, it'll be interesting to see how zoe's character handles it in the short and long run.

I had the very same problem with the show. I was like 'oh, spacecowboys' and then i couldn't take it seriously at all.4days wrote:tried watching the first few episodes of the series and couldn't get into it. the whole western in space thing just didn't feel like it worked.
Felt like an akward trick to combine two popular genres into one, or something.

you watch the pilot?4days wrote:tried watching the first few episodes of the series and couldn't get into it. the whole western in space thing just didn't feel like it worked. haven't gotten into any joss whedon stuff since about 3/4 of the way through buffy.
also, you have to pay really close attention to the scenes and dialogue. This isn't a show that affords weak attention spans.
the western thing put me off too, until i realized it was prejudice holding me back.
Shepard died, wash died and i thought someone else died but i guess im wrong. There was a 3rd grave at the end though, i just cant remember who it was for.[xeno]Julios wrote:wtf you on about?
one crew member died.
get over it already
and i prefer to think of the movie as giving closure to the series.
whedon's expressed the possibility of future movies.
seriously, get over wash - he died a perfect death.
But still, killing shepherd and wash sucks
not sure if i watched the pilot, think so - think it was the stereotypical wise, religious-but-with-a-shady-side (tm) old black guy and the "i know it looks like the club from buffy but now it's a spaceship okay" thing that put me off - that and the fact that i kept getting it mixed up with 'six feet under' for some reason.
don't have the time, the memory or the attention span to get into a lot of telly though, which makes me pretty biased.

the 3rd grave was for mr universe, who wasn't part of their crewIccy wrote:Shepard died, wash died and i thought someone else died but i guess im wrong. There was a 3rd grave at the end though, i just cant remember who it was for.[xeno]Julios wrote:wtf you on about?
