Myst V

Post by Canis »

Who's a Myst fan? I've just got it and its pretty good. I'm still finishing myst 4 so i'll be waiting on playing the game, but its a good looking game. I like how they've added the option to fully walk around.

I was so let down by the original, I never bothered to try out any others.
Do they improve at all? I'd have to think they're a bit better now, but I just haven't been able to invest any sort of interest.

the original was great IMO. Riven was too abstract for my taste, but Exile was pretty good again (never beat it though)

Is Myst anything like Starship Titanic?

It's far from impossible. My roommate in college and I tore through that game and loved it. The challenges were the best part about it, but some parts were a lot easier if you had another set of eyes for things you might miss the first time.

I'm with R00k. At the risk of sounding like a complete knob, it was far from difficult. Some of the puzzles were clever, but not nearly as mindbending as people made it sound.
I think if I had played it when it came out, I'd have like it more, but I think I heard too much of people talking it up.
It's a shame, I really wanted to like it. That's kind of why I'm interested to know what some of the sequels are like.

Oh yeah, I'd probably have liked it more if it had rewarded me at the end, but it had one of the worst endings of any game I've ever played.
Just my opinion, though. Millions of others loved, it's true.

I did really like the design, though. But I thought they could've done so much better with the game...

It's very pretty, but it's much easier than many of the others - like the absolutely horrendous Spire puzzle from Myst 4 and the brilliant overarching puzzle from Riven. It's also very short.

It's a pity the acting is so fucking awful though - why couldn't they have gone the hardly-any-acting route from the original myst?

Props to Cyan for simultaneous release on mac and PC though.... even if it has the usual Ubisoft system lockups associated (ATI driver specific, possibly)

There are some puzzles that are just too ridiculous. The first one was quite intuitive and kept you thinking about matching designs, patterns, and such accross the various ages. They got carried away with riven, but came back with Exile. I've been playing through the 4th, and its kinda tiring at times, especially some of the puzzles where they're trying to have them solved in a specific time. The good thing about myst I was it didnt require you to do things in a specific timeframe, which allowed you to think more and be precise instead of trusting your hand to do things quickly and accurately.

I find myst games too hard. I do love first person point n click adventures in the style of myst but which are slightly easier. Such as the recent 'voyage', 'return to mysterious island', 'zork grand inquisitor', 'zork nemesis'. If you guys want something very challenging, as challenging as the myst games, try Rhem.
And Rhem 2 which has just come out.

Me and the wife just played through 4 and it was pretty interesting. I haven't played any of the others except for a little bit of the original. But I plan on playing them.
