It's that simple. If America says, "Bend over." The world replies, "How far?"
right

Of course this problem could be solved almost instantly by passing some law that says you gotta pay an illegal minimum wage.

Why? Illegals have no American rights.

Why you ask? To solve the problem you have with them of course.

Otherwise this problem will never go away.

Seriously rep, think of what would happen when tomorrow it would be illegal to pay illegals under minimum wage.

Well that would be nice in theory, but in practice I know that a lot of farmers would still pay less than minimum wage illegally -- they're already hiring them illegally. :smirk:

No, it's not that simple. There are layers to his idiocy that defy description.

I think prosecuting people for hiring illegals is like fighting the symptoms of the cancer rather than the cancer itself (which is imo the supply and demand of cheap labor). There will always be hungry people from the south who like to make some money, and there will always be people willing to exploit that.

But if you give the illegals the right to protest their sickiningly low wages, suddenly the whole equasion doesn't add up anymore. Why would they work for someone who'll pay them far less than they'd earn on the other side of town? The only way this wouldn't work is if there'd be no regular checking up of companies and farms and the like.

There isn't any regular checking up on small farming employers - at least out here - and that's where a majority of them are working.

It would take a massive investment to start regularly monitoring small farmers, and even then it wouldn't be too hard to bypass the controls.

Small farmers are making jack shit these days. Most of them are one seasonal drought away from losing everything they own. That's why they look for extremely cheap labor to begin with.

I bet that even when you skip the smaller farms altogether and just go for the walmarts and bigger companies, it would work.

The self regulating mechanism of not wanting to earn nothing when you could earn more will take care of the rest. I think.

Want to put it to the test? I know where I can tag and bag a dozen or so, and no one will ever care to look for them. Hop over to Aruba, and kill an American girl and you've got fighter jets looking for you.

Just because it's on paper doesn't mean it's for real.

It's illegal to pay illegals.

Edit: This is a little different, but let me just tell you a story. When I went to fill out my voter registration card, a migrant worker was in line in front of me at the MVD. He didn't speak any English whatsoever, and even though they got a Spanish speaking person to translate, she couldn't understand because he was clearly stupid. He had to get a new migrant worker permit, which costs $40. He only had $20. After holding the line up for twenty minutes, they gave him the card for $20.

I spoke up about it, but my voice fell on deaf ears. The workers at the MVD were hispanic.
