This is what came out of the purchase of Keyhole. Almost as functional as Keyhole, and it's free! They have a plus version that adds gps functionality among other small things, but the free version is very nice.
BTW, post some nice places of interest that you know of so we can look at them.

It also lets you do travel searches, 'from-to locations' and find a shit load of other stuff like schools, eateries, banks, bars, malls, coffehouses, stadiums, golf, etc. fucking nice

isn't this using the same data as Nasa's Worldwind? I do like the interface of Google Earth better though.
