Erm.. MK was just bloody.. that dont make a 'great' game..

sure its fun.. hell i still play MK1 2 3 and umk3.. but there not better than anything capcom has put out.. in fact, until the combo system was added to MK it was just "freeze" uppercut "freeze" uppercut"
The jaws of soccer mom's everywhere dropped when Scorpion ripped Kano's spine out of his body. No one died on Street Fighter.
Again.. Blood and gore dont make a great game.. if that was the case, TIME KILLERS is a better game than any of the mortal kombats..

It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.

Stop putting words in my mouth or I'll have to regulate like I did in the MP3 thread. I never said it was a great game. I said it pushed the boundaries of social acceptability... like goth's. MK is way cooler than goths.

expoilts?

Do tell more...as i stated, i was only a youngling when i played this game
well, for starters, midway thought it was a good and fun idea to have players get dmg when they block. so that you cant sit in the corner and block while youre ahead till time runs out, no doubt.
they also thought itd be a good idea to have no knockback whatsoever.

so, every spastic could pick any character*, make someone block something and keep on hitting the punch button till KO.

the no knockback thing also created the infamous endless sweep :icon14: great gamedesign there.

* by 'character' i mean avatar. there were what, 3 different sprites with different palettes (MK3 was the greatest in this aspect), and while one practised Kung Fu and the other South-Brazillian Martial Wrestling Arts 2001 Gold, they all had the exact same animation and hitpriorities. and by priorities i mean none - you could boucne someone on your fist endlessly while the other would try to counter with every move in the book. to no avail

aaah, mortal kombat. only tards think its truly a great game. tards like Duke, for instance

doom was released after the esrb was founded, sir.

The nineties see the birth of First-Person shooters and a new generation of fighter games. 1992’s Street Fighter II and Mortal Kombat cause extreme moral panic.

...

In 1994 DOOM becomes a notable first-person shooter for not only gameplay achievements but for receiving the first R-rating in ESRB history.

In 1994 DOOM becomes a notable first-person shooter for not only gameplay achievements but for receiving the first R-rating in ESRB history.

Founded in late 1994, the ESRB has rated literally thousands of products. It's not just some organization throwing out ideals and morals, but a large company, well established in (or, rather, above) the gaming industry. Headed by a board of advisors from prominent organizations, backed by the government, educational industries, and supported by various corporations, the ESRB has a strong base, and will not be going away.

Through a seemingly comprehensive system, they assign entertainment software ratings based upon offensive material, and despite the fact that their ratings are only meant to be recommendations for parents and other public responsibles, such as librarians, many stores have started accepting these ratings as law. Gaming companies are now putting strict rules on free copies, demos, and betas of their games given out to the public - all based upon ESRB ratings.

Sorry, I couldn't see that icon because it was presented at a fixed 45˚ angle with lots of shimmering effects and flames which really set off the interlacing. Oh and it had HUGE tits bouncing up and down in front of it.
