Average restart times? (XP logo duration)

I don't even remember. The only times my PC is restarted is when a new installation requires it or I go out of town. And when it's booting up, I'm out of the room, getting a drink or someshit. I'd say maybe 10 seconds. BIOS is considerably longer though (can't be arsed to change the primary boot device from CD-ROM to HDD).

Well you must have a fast system then. Have you got any DVD or CD drives connected to the controller? That's the main reason for my slower boot, because the bios of the controller is scanning for devices and spins up the drives afterwards (when CD or DVD are inside them).

Oh well, I don't mind.

i have the Drives set int he bios, Most people just leave them to Smart and Auto detect..

then windows is Stripped of useless shit i dont need at boot, and etc..

as for a fast system, as i listed before.

AMD 64 3200+ ( .90Nm core, 939 )
MSI K8N-Neo2
2X 512 Kingston DDR400
WD 200gig SATA

nothing to special at all..

Which one wins in a boot up contest, freshly installed 2.8GHz Dell system with XP SP2, or 500MHz HP on XP SP1? Yeah, the HP.

Last time I booted XP, I had to look at that splash screen for five seconds. Debian Linux takes considerably longer, around two minutes, but then I'm still using one of those bloated default kernels.
