bicycle - no
bike - I'm not even riding one without a body suit considering the way I drive.

Then again, I hardly ever ride a bicycle anyway.

i`ve had multiple falls when biking/downhill and my helmet has helped a few times.

true that with major crashes they dont really help, but how many times are you going ot have a major crash and go back on your bike after. they help for the small more frequent crashes.

so you have a choice of being one of two idiots.
1 - the guy that looks like an idiot with a helmet on but is more protected then someone that isn`t.
2 - the idiot that hit is head but could of had a lot less damage if he had a helmet on.

then again, i dont wear one of those normal bike helmets, i`ve always been partial to wearing my pro-tec helmet.

Great fucking logic. I don't wear a bullet proof vest and I've never died of shotgun wounds either, not once.

So you cite 'messing up your hair' as a reason not to wear a helmet, then state that people who wear helmets are sissies?

Fucking lol.
Oh thats right, only sissies care about their appearance.

Unless I was going to be doing some crazy ass tricks or going insanely fast I wouldn't wear a helmet. I know I shouldn't really say that helmets are for sissies but thats just what I think when I see someone on the street. What really kills me is when people are wearing spandex pants like they are some pro biker.

don't make yourself look worse, although that's pretty difficult after that last post.

wear one. I've always worn one when riding out on streets and off on the trails. Its the smart thing to do. And no, you won't look like a twat if you get a proper helmet that fits you correctly.

I actually think they look kinda cool - i just love the free feeling of wind and hair, and not have to worry about the hassle of storing the helmet somewhere.

i always laugh when i see people wearing their helmets like this:

especially with the strap loose, which offers absolutly no protection at all.

they are mandatory here. i dont ride but a decent helmet like replicants, get one that fits right and they look fine, only weigh a few hundred grams, and have plenty of ventilation. the logic is pretty simple, would you play baseball/cricket without one? you're pretty vain if you dont wear one because it looks dumb.
riding a km or 2 to the shops in the burbs...np. riding on roads without one is plain nuts. there are a lot of shit, blind drivers out there.

Helmets seriously help with road rash. Plus in the case you do fall, it's allot less painful. I'm not sighting any survey, this is just my personal option from experiences. As a kid I got into some crazy accidents, the kind with ear ringing, and stumble around limping in pain.

One of my friend, has been in two cycling accidence. In both cases she was hit by a car, she was waring a helmet and she still lives. No scars on the face, even though she was drag across the ground. Her spine has allot of metal, had to deal with broken legs, broken ribs, but no head injuries.

Another friend ran into a tree, wasn't waring a helmet, the right side of her scull was crushed in on impact. She can't see out of her right eye.

In the us thousand of motor cycle rider die every year. Other end up in comas for the rest of their life. It's not too surprising, considering a rider might be traveling at 30, 40 or even 60 miles per hour. Motor Cycle riders, who chose to ware helmets are less likely to die, less likely to end up in a coma, and are more likely to wake up from a coma. Not to mention more likely to matane some level of motor control. There is a tone of report to back this up.

You guys might laugh at this but remember that friend of mine that got my car impounded? Yeah well I lent him my mountainbike the other day and he broke his arm. Crashed hard pulling the front break and not the rear one by accident. (he says).

I've always worn a helmet and intend to continue. I mainly ride on gravel and offroad, the biggest issue is if you catch some gravel or a pothole worng and you can have some bad wipeouts and it is always good to know your head is protected. I have crashed where I've hit my head, never enough to break a helmet, but it is nice only having to stand up and get back on the bike with no worries of head injuries

so yes wear a helmet

that there is a good call, was riding with a few mates when i was younger and we were in the side of the road which was mostly gravel (like stone gravel not gravel gravel)

anyway my cunting mate braked and as i braked i skided and tried to turn to avoid him resulting in me falling off

my head couldnt of been more than an inch from the crash barrier piller, i know this because i actually felt it graze my ear

Image

kinda looked like that piller, its a memory which will stay with me all my life and is why i said further up the only time i would maybe wear a helmet is if i was going through forests or someshit

The argument is stupid cause ultimately wearing a helmet can only help. The only downfall to a bike helmet is they look kinda stupid unless you're wearing complete cycling gear.

I know a racing cyclist (he's also a bike courier) who hates wearing helmets downtown - he feels less safe with them since they interfere with his comfort.

Also, one could argue that it's stupid to debate whether we should wear helmets when we travel in cars - they can only help right?

Or what about as pedestrians...

Then he should get a more comfortable helmet because that's a retarded argument vs possibly saving your life. And no it's not a good argument to compare cycling, a vehicle that can go easily 40km/h which is fast enough to kill if your head were to impact the wrong way on say cement or even a sharp object on the ground going 40km/h would more likely kill you than if you had been walking.

Cars have safety features and are basicly a helmet for your entire body so I definitely don't follow you there.

I was responding directly to your argument.

Which was as follows:

Premise: A helmet can only help
Conclusion: It is retarded to argue about helmets

According to this logic, one should wear a helmet as a pedestrian, and/or while travelling in a car.

Well perhaps I should have been more clear and stated it can only help while riding a bycicle. Since it's the subject at hand I assumed you would put the two together.
