So, how many dead pixels have your (brand new) PSP got?

Post by Yeando »

Fuck you Sony.
I bought mine at 3pm today and only had a quick fuck around with the net and Wipeout, no problems whatsoever, really chuffed with it.
Its now 8.35pm so i decide to have another go and behold when I turn it on..
"THERE ARE 4 FUCKING PIXELS STARING ME STRAIGHT IN THE FACE"
Its only a few hours old for fucks sake. Im the only person whos held it and the only place its been otherwise is in the pouch it comes with.
Thankfully I can take it back to the shop but thats beside the fucking point, well pissed off bigtime :icon33:

I have one red, it dosen't really bother me. It's only noticeable on black screens, otherwise you don't notice it. But there are also these transparent type 'smudges' if you will, a pixel in size, you can see in bright light or under certain angles with whiter screens. I don't know if that's another form of a dead pixel or not or just dust, but it's not that many.

I had the chance to get a Logitech protective shell thingy.
But would it be any point when this problem just 'happens'

Its got nothing to do with you. Its not like you can just knock it and the pixel will fall off dude.

Its to do with Sony being money grabbing cunts and not having better quality control.

Aye. So far I only see mine on loading game, you know, when there are black loading screens (MediEvil and Ape Academy). But it also limits me from not using black/dark backgrounds...

No worries, i'll get mine replaced soon. Thats why i put 2.0 on, just to see what its like :p

Dead pixels come out of the box (during prodution) a hard cover case won't protect from it. I don't know what the probability of new pixels appearing over the course of the screens life is but it's probably slim. I have the Logitech clam-shell cover for carrying it around though and it helps in keeping it clean and from hard drops.

Son'y video game hardware = shit

Just look at the PS2: the laser is the shittiest piece of fucking shit ever put in a fucking videogame console. Play a game that accesses the disk a lot, like GTA: SA, for extended periods of time and sooner or later the laser is going to get weaker and eventually it'll die. I had this problem with a used PS2 after 2 months. O well, it was used right? So I eventually bought another BRAND NEW PS2, one of those slim consoles. Same thing happend after 5 months. Games started suttering like mad and now I usually get a disc read error. I mean what the fuck? And I take care of my shit too.

It's just the screen quality that's poor.

Your dead pixels should mostly appear within the first 100 hours of use, at a guess. After that time, take stock of how many there are and where they're located (centre of the screen is more 'serious'). Are they dead or live (permanently on)?

damn, I didnt know the dead pixel issue was this big. I had figured it was just something that was being overhyped by nerds..
Maybe I'll just get a DS then. lol

Just because you're put off one handheld doesn't mean you have to get the 'other' choice.

Might I recommend a GBA SP instead?

I have a gba sp, it's called the psp (with emulators), it's kind of expensive but meh. :p

I'm all for old-skool 16bit platformers, but I don't like the idea of buying a ton of 30$ cartriges for it.

You can get these neat RAM carts for the SP, from places like lik-sang.

Friend of mine ordered one. The memory onboard was smaller than he wanted, but the unit otherwise works really nicely, with a USB cable for transferring the ROMs

That won't work with the newer firmware versions though, will it?

I hate to say it Foo, but as an old school Nintendo nerd, the DS somehow doesnt appeal to me. Although I already own the 3 main systems alongside my PC. I sadly dont play games that much anymore.
TBH im given several PS2 and X-Box games most weeks from friends (wink-wink) and i dont even bother checking them out.
The last game I bought and stuck to till the end is RE4. Im 23 now and games dont appeal to me as much now as they did when I had ZX Spectrum or even my well beloved N64 in 1997 :tear:
Theres still several new games Im looking forward to (Zelda, Q4 among others) but ive not been looking at buying another games system. Its only because of the impressive lineup of new titles for the PSP (Pro evolution soccer 5, GTA, and even WWE im liking) ive decided to invest in one.

Am I making any fucking sense of this? Im stuck in on a Fri night, no beer and a gayed PSP :icon27:

reread my sentiment on the DS, I'm not hot on it either.

IMO handheld gaming has peaked at the GBA SP and I'm still waiting for it to be topped.
