The Red Cross was waiting for the US soldiers when they landed in Europe, and charging them money most of the soldiers didn't have for coffee and cigarrettes...they gave a friend of the family money for a plane ticket back from Iraq for a week to go to a family member's funeral, and then billed him for the plane ticket, with interest later on. I've heard lots of rumors that I can't verify about other things they've done, especially about wanting all sorts of recompensation (and interest in some cases) for stuff they do as 'charitable organization.'

I just know my grandfather, a WW2 vet, never forgave them for the insult of seeing the American red cross charging American soldiers across the world for a cup of coffee. ANd he let every single red cross volunteer he ever met for the rest of his life know it...hehe.

I'm considering sending money to the Salvation Army, on their website it says 100 bux will support a family of 4 for 2 days. As far as I know Salvation Army is on the mark, but if anyone knows any bad stuff about them, please post it here so we can gather info on who is on the up and up.

Some California bodyboarders are thinking about going down to the disaster area to help out for a few weeks, we may give them some money to take along as well, to make sure it really gets to the people who need it.
