Ok, I'm moving this into a seperate thread. At this very moment I am drawing from memory only, I spent 15 minutes alone on the eye and the eyebrow and am now working my way down the right side of the face. I'll post pictures of the progress I've made. Firstly, here's what I had when I first started.
Now here's what I have right at this very moment:
AIM (sso.chivanet.org): Atomleiche

I'm bad at Quake, have been my whole life
Proportions. The ear is way too small. It's easy to get caught up focusing in the area you're working on, but you have to pull back and look at the whole picture and look at the elements in relation to each other.
finish that book zero. that book promises to teach even people that can't draw how to produce decent results.
if you still can't come up with anything worth looking at after that, at least you'll know conclusively that you actually have anti-artistic skills. simply by marking a piece of paper you'll have transformed it from the mundane to 'not art'.

ok well, i'm going to finish it, because the lesson is to draw from memory and you guys asked me to draw julie, therefore i am. but i'll stop this thread now.
Don't worry about finished product when starting portrait, create basic shapes then tighten into detail, do not start with detail and move around to different points of the peice. Work abstract at first with ovals and lines for proportion and general areas for eyes, nose, etc then start getting more detailed the more you put in..
eye appears a *bit* too close to the side of the head..not much. but tbh, it is an improvement from your previous stuff. and also, the top of the ear should be moved up a tad, and the ear lenghtened a bit.
and if you want to know if i am qualified to make such critiques - the answer is maybe.
