How to con a salesman

Post by DRuM »

I bought syberia the collectors edition today. Thing is, I got it DIRT cheap. On the computer exchange website, ( a chain of shops called 'cex' selling second hand computer games and other stuff), it said 'syberia collection' 3 copies in stock at their tottenham court road branch. Now I'd seen a couple of online places to buy it, (it's one DVD with both syberia and syberia 2), but they were both sold out. I tried ringing computer exchange to find out if what they had was also both games, but the switchboard was off.

So I took the train up there and when I looked at the box it said 'syberia the collectors edition' with no mention anywhere on the box about both games. I complained that they made a mistake, saying that 'the collectors edition' isn't the same as the 'syberia collection' and that I didn't want to pay £14 for just the first game, especially as it cost me £5 to get up there on the train, which would make it effectively £19. I said I'd buy it for £10. The salesman said he could only knock £1 off. I said let me see the manager and the manager let me have it for £10, apologising to me for the mistake. I'd taken the black mirror game in which I finished and they gave me an exchange value of £3, so the syberia collection only cost me £7, or £12 if I add the train fare.

So I get home and after checking out ' the collectors edition ' on the net, it turns out it IS both games, lol with a full install of 2.5 gb.
So, I feel kinda guilty. I genuinely thought I was only buying the first game and now I feel bad for having pushed that place into a discount, accusing them of a misleading description when in fact they were selling what I wanted all along. Oh well, fuck it, I got both games now cheaper than I'd find anywhere. :D

[size=75][i]I once had a glass of milk.

It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.

I am now sick.

Well that's true o'dium.. But the box cover says nothing about it being both games. I should have looked closer at the screenshot of the box cover on that site where it was sold out, because now I see it says the collectors edition. Then again, if I knew for sure it was the right one they were selling, I would have ended up paying more for it. As it happens, your shop 'GAME' sells it for £12.99, cheaper than their listed price but GAME is sold out too.

you know those stores that offer price matching ?

anyway, find a mate with a shop (my mate owns a chippy) and make up some business name

say to the bloke this is cheaper in 'mucho bargainz'

give them your mates number just get him to say a price and that he has it in stock and badda bing !

just dont go to overboard, some companies check after the price has been reduced to much (usually 10-20% for bigger stuff)

but i bought GTA SA for 15 quid when it 1st came out and GT4 for 13 quid

I tried that at GAME the other day. PC world is selling half-life 2 for £14.99 and GAME is selling it at £19.99 I told them that, and asked them if they price matched but they said no, so they didn't even bother to ring pc world and find out. Needless to say, I drove to pc world for HL2.

game (atleast in my area) is filled with spotty bastard teenagers who cant be assed to do anything more than pick there ass and wind the customer up as much as poss

Wow drum, congratulations on social interaction. I guess it's not something you do too often if you come back and post about being a whiny old man in a gaming store.

I'll just keep in mind that to con a salesman, I'll just have no knowledge of the product I'm trying to buy.

Devastating. Are you sure you've only been here 3 years to come up with something like that?

Drum, you're pretty bad at this.

I have two other pics in that thread around late 30s or 40 or something, I don't fee like looking them back up.

Can you shoot something at me that's not ammunition I provide?

Although it is funny that you're trying.
