Maybe dragging it across messed things up and it needs a fresh install?

Ultra mode puts little party hats on the chansaw guys?

p.s. o'dium, as I'm sure you're aware, much of the stuff in Ultra mode remains turned off on current vid cards, so you're really just running it on "High" even though it says "Ultra" on the menu.

im sure the 6800GT can handle most if not all of those features though right? i mean HalfLife2 gives me some pretty spiffy effects :o

No, ultra mode runs the game uncompressed using DDS textures. There isn't anything else Ultra mode adds.

You can tell the difference between high and ultra only in screenshots really. There isn't really anything else that could be turned on/off, other than render to texture resolution, but my card supports none power of two in that so it always looks pin sharp to match my resolution.

Just quoting some guff from Willits, so it's probably actually just bullshit.

So, where can I get the party hat mod from?

I'm gonna take the opportunity in this thread to ask if anyone else had issues with ATI cards on the textures in Half Life 2 when running any drivers as new or newer than the game. I've had to drop back about a year in driver terms just to play CS:Source properly.

May make my own thread actually...

That reminds me of the phrase from T-shirt hell "You can't have 'slaughter' without 'laughter'".

Something close to Riddla's problem I'm having. The dust when you are on the surface of mars is pitch black, even when going inside the air lock I can still see the black texture cutting through the wall.

Any ideas? I'm not even sure what to be searching for, and what I have...hasn't helped any.

:D

128Mb ti4400, the pretty factor isn't all the way there, but it runs a average 40fps...that's the only thing bothering me.

edit: Ah, Nvidia has an update...will try that before bothering with it anymore.

eh? a DDS format material includes prescaled versions of the texture within the material itself, presumably to take some load off the gfx processor. call of duty used DDS textures throughout. i don't see what's so 'ultra' about it

not sure what you mean by 'uncompressed'. in q3, textures are compressed 50%; in call of duty and hl2 they are compressed to 25% of thier original size (usually 512*2 -> 128*2)
