CD Deck
Ok, so I bought a cd player deck for my car, spliced all the wires and hooked em up. Radio works fine, everything works. Except CD Audio. I put a CD in, it displays the track time and is reading, but no sound is coming out, although I'm getting sound for the radio tuner? wtf! I don't get it, anyone know of anything that may be causing this?
I bought an Aiwa CDC X144

Did you wire up the power antenna?
I had an issue with this before when I put a head unit in my Probe. For some weird ass reason I couldn't use both the power antenna and the amp lead because it caused the internal amp to turn off during cd playback. So what I did was wired the power antenna and amp leads together.
lead 1 -----\/----------- ant
lead 2 -----/\----------- amp
kinda like that

Mine did too. I could listen to AM/FM without an external amp or I could listen to a CD without an internal amp. I think you are correct in saying the unit is fucked but that's how I worked around it.+JuggerNaut+ wrote:his radio works.bitWISE wrote:Did you wire up the power antenna?

No it was a Clarion. I got the unit off ebay but it was wrapped up like brand new. My Kenwood works pretty well but I don't think it sounds as nice as the Clarion did.+JuggerNaut+ wrote:i'm under the assumption that he does not have an external amp. therefore, if his radio works, his internal amplifier is functioning proplerly.
interesting problem YOU had though. was that a Kenwood by chance?

I just dont like the way its setup. I mainly want to have remote control of the gain. Plus if I manage to get a W7 I'll need more power.+JuggerNaut+ wrote:difference between brand name HU's, sound quality wise, is pretty non-existant. do you know if they were both 2v pre-outs?
p.s. i wouldn't bother with a new amp unless you wanted more power. Punch amps have pretty good sound. the newer ones won't sound any better.
I'm not using amps to run my full range speakers (yet). I always use the head unit. Could be that I had better imaging in the Probe or it could be that I prefer a 6.5 component set over a 3-way 6x9 component set.

remote control gain? why? get an HU that's got sub level controls. if you have a 4v or > pre-out, your gain adjusting days are over anyway.bitWISE wrote:I just dont like the way its setup. i'm not understanding your comment about a 6.5 component set. do you mean that you prefer one with the built in amplification?

My Clarion had amp control but the kenwood doesnt. What I mean is that in my Probe I had 2 sets of 6.5 components by Infinity. In the Eclipse I have a 6.5 and a 6x9 component set by Infinity. I thought it sounded better in the Probe.+JuggerNaut+ wrote:remote control gain? why? get an HU that's got sub level controls. if you have a 4v or > pre-out, your gain adjusting days are over anyway.bitWISE wrote:I just dont like the way its setup. yeah, totally depends on the car and placement of speakers, especailly the god-awful stock placements of most vehicles.bitWISE wrote:My Clarion had amp control but the kenwood doesnt.
