Next Gen Games
I've just seen a demo for a PS3 game in development from one of our clients who's doing the sound and I must say I have never seen anything like this before. The graphics are beyond anything I've ever dreamed of.

That might work, but I can't really see it as effective competition with the 360. I mean, you can't get people to buy a console by releasing sequels to games that they have already never played.Jackal wrote:apparently in the year that the PS2 is down to $99 Sony plans on making a huge push by releasing sequels to huge flagship titles.

I would. But besides that, the ps3 isn't exactly supposed to be a kid's toy, that would be the Revolutionrep wrote:Relax, the 360 blows PS3 out of the water anyway.
It's not like you should be excited about rendered E3 demos. (I know, what you saw was probably done live, but it just doesn't matter.)
Who wants to spend $600 on a fucking kid's toy?
what I saw wasn't from E3. It was from our client who has done the sound for the game. The footage I was watching was all in-game and looked completely phenomenal. From everything I've read it seems that the 360 has more power but the PS3's hardware architecture is designed better and as such, performs better.rep wrote:Relax, the 360 blows PS3 out of the water anyway.

Frankly, I don't care which looks "better" I'm just saying that the graphics I've seen in this game surpass any expectations I've ever had for any console.

how do you think it will play though? is it from a good developer?Jackal wrote:what I saw wasn't from E3. It was from our client who has done the sound for the game. fuck yes. part of what impressed me was the level of interactivity for an FPS. One part involved the player setting a trap, and another part showed the player blowing up a tree and causing it to fall down on a bunch of troopers.
There were also a bunch of scenes similar to the action scenes in RE4 where you have to hit certain buttons at certain times.
I generally don't get all that excited about games but this had my attention piqued.

thats not official yet though. it depends on how well the x360 will do. at least, thats what "the analists" are sayingJackal wrote:they're apparently pushing the PS3 back an entire year and dropping the price of the PS2 down to $99 in order to compete with the xbox360.

The big worry amongst a lot of the smaller developers is that while next gen titles may look cool thanks to the hardware, that same hardware is designed primarily with graphics processing in mind, and not with advanced AI in mind.
So even more so than now, the next generation will be a bimbo one...
When it comes down to it, where do you think the most potential for advances in gameplay will come from?
Graphics or AI?
