Good evening my friends

Australian brothers

Just a weird topic but as I was flushing the toilet before…
I remembered I saw an article that say that the flow in the toilet bowl
go counter wise, in north America it is clockwise.
Is it true or just a joke?

The simple answer, pete, is no. The way a sink drains is determined by things like the shape of the sink/toilet, how the water flows from the faucet, etc.
The force of the Earth's rotation CAN determine how water will drain, but it's such a small effect that it won't overcome other forces.

EDIT: btw, that force is called the Coriolis force. You'd have to have a perfectly symetrical and still basin of water to negate any other variables that affect the flow.

he finished his thought

and i am continually suprised by the number of folks who still think that the toilets flush the opposite direction. students ask that all the time, then argue with me when i tell them that they don't.

kind of like the idea that you can balance an egg on its end on the equinox.

OKAY, THE EXPERIMENT WAS A COMPLETE FAILURE.

The toilet didn't flow in either direction (water came down from either side of the mid-section, so it clashed on the middle of the opposite side, and didn't really seem to flow either way.

The sink, once the plug was removed, kinda just flowed right down, except nearing the end when it seemed to flow in an anti-clockwise direction but it was pretty inconclusive.

australia is nice. fucking freezing at night at the moment, though (3 degrees celcius last night brrr)
