so, peanuts
so, peanuts
yes, salted peanuts.
good or bad for you? Unsalted better?
How many should you eat in a sitting?
Reason I ask is I've found a retailer round the corner who sells medium-sized (300g) bags of them, crusted in sea salt, for a quid (literally, peanuts).
I could eat them in one go, but something's telling me that would be bad.

they're extremely fattening, and i doubt the salt does you any good.
For two months last semester I lived on cashew nuts, sultanas (both aquired from a weigh shop) and toast and suffered no ill effects. I say go for cashews or pistachios. They're nicer and probably slightly better for you.

good and bad.
peanuts are a rich source of nutrients, such as monosaturated fatty acids, magnesium and folate, vitamin E, copper, arginine and fiber. They are also a good source of resveratrol - an antioxidant and key cancer and heart disease fighter.
but the down side....
Peanuts are one of the most pesticide-contaminated crops
Peanuts are loaded with omega-6 fats that distort the omega 3:6 ratio (a much better choice would be eating walnuts - rich in beneficial omega-3 fats)
Peanuts are often contaminated with aflatoxin, a group of poisonous chemical compounds produced by carcinogenic mold.
i guess its like everything you eat...
moderation is the key

its all relative tho, peanuts > twinkie. There are a lot worse things that you can eat for snack foods. I am a big fan of the mixed nut can. I would try to stick with the unsalted, but i think as long as you are getting enough water and exercise and you have a decent diet you don't really have that much to worry about. one thing you might want to try, and its really good, is to find a good recipe for making cinnamon/sugar almonds in the oven. My grandpa makes them and they are awesome. Almonds are very healthy and i think buying plain nuts and salting or sugaring them yourself is the best bet.
