Some Recent Photography (2mb+)

Post by brisk »

Here are some shots I took within the last week or so, on my travels. I think of photography as a hobby i'd like to get more involved with in the coming years, and i'm slowly building up/upgrading my equiptment.

I currently use a Panasonic Lumix FZ20, with a 72mm Linear Polarizer.

In no particular order:

Yesterday, I visited The Deep aquarium in Hull, hoping to get some nice shots. I underestimated how dark it was though, and since we were unable to use flash lighting, I didn't get the kind of shots I wanted. However, a few did turn out ok, but they're more abstract and less literal than I intended.

Thats all for now. I might post some more later.

I like the shots, especially that riveting garden hose, but some were a bit dark, of course, you knew that.

Not that bad, the nature photos are very busy and the duck photos have an underexposed duck... Good effort though. The macros are very nice though :)

Could it be *gasp* because its macro photography? ;)

The photos are for a little folder (around 200 images) i'll be presenting to uni after the summer break. Its mainly an investigation into colour and texture, which is why some of the shots are a little busy.

Can your camera shoot in RAW, brisk? What's the highest ISO setting? How many mpix?

Here’s one of the shots I’ve managed to upload from my 350D

I really like the peg shot, you've a nice eye for it.

Here’s a clue. You need any white in your images to appear white on your screen/print. Open PS, your image, levels, select the white dropper, click on a white pixel (use the 'info' window, for help) to set the white point, now do the same for black. Or you could just set the neutral grey point.

[lvlshot]http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/5823/whitep3at.jpg[/lvlshot]

Point 1 is my white point, is something like R:3 B:8 G:3 but in levels when I use the white dropper it sets that point as R:0 B:0 G:0 and adjusting the rest of the image

Point 2 was my black, R:250 B:252 G:252.

Make sense?

brisk, do some research into the golden mean.

Other than the duck and 2 mollusk thingies, nice shots. I especially like the clothespin one.

Thanks. My camera cannot shoot in RAM mode unfortunately, but it does have a lossless tiff format (which equates to files around 15mb if using the maximum resolution, so I can fit about 30 shots on my 512mb sdcard). It is 5 mpix. More info and the review can be found at dpreview

I have a few B&W macro+portrait shots I will post shortly.

Yep, I know about the golden ratio, and how our eyes likes to percieve things :)

I'm a stickler for it because I got it drilled into me so damn much in my graphic design classes, so I tend to immediately look for ratios in pictures, regardless of whether or not it detracts from the image. :p

These photos were taken for the summer fashion show which took place at my uni a few weeks ago. Its basically for year 3 fashion design students, who get someone to model their clothes for them prior to the actual catwalk. The models were just friends of theirs unfortunately, so no serious hotty to photograph. The male in these pics is my mate at uni.

Realising that things just weren't working, I decided to fix their faces a little.

Much better, wouldn't you agree? ;)
