So they try and price people off the roads onto public transport.
oh.. wait
Public transport is overused now, lets penalise people for using it.

Unreasonable to shift people back once you've accepted them.PhoeniX wrote:rofl you can't win. Drive a car, too many people drive. Take public transport, too many people using that.
I say we should kick out all the immigrants from the country back to their own country, freeing up the country for actual british people.
Accept those who are now here, reduce immigration figures drastically, channel money into border controls and likewise, international efforts to improve 3rd world/developing countries.

Public transport is underfunded and that why it is "overused" or rather of insufficient capacity and riding around in personal chariots should be taxed like hell to support efficient transportaton.phantasmagoria wrote:http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4112360.stm

Gas prices are enough of a problem already. I don't know about the UK but here in BC transit doesn't work for many people due to either distance, transport schedules, or the insane amounts of time it takes to get anywhere on public transport.
Its pretty easy to say tax the hell out of cars when you live near work and near your family and friends. However, when large distances are added to that equation the argument becomes a lot more unrealistic.

Thats because you don't have a mature multilevel infrastructure like here in the Toronto area. Here you can travel by rail between Hamilton to Oshawa and most of the way to Barrie in the north at 100Km/h into the city core with runs in a little as every 15 minutes during rush hour and meet the subway and streetcar link to where ever you want. I travel more than 120Kms and can be at work in less than 2 hoursTormentius wrote:Canidae wrote:

Vancoucer is stone age due to your reliance on cars.

No, downtown skytrain runs are every 5 mins. The buses are frequent too during day and evening hours but the skytrain pretty much shuts down overnight. Its also 60km from Vancouver to Abbotsford and 70kmfrom Vancouver to Chilliwack (both of which are huge commuter destinations as most people don't want to raise their kids in a downtown core area). Also, not everyone feels like being cramped in some filthy train and/or bus for hours on end. Consider something as simple as going out with friends who live in a different city or taking kids anywhere. Both of those very common things are easy to do in a car but both become a colossal pain in the ass to do on transit.Canidae wrote:

The bottom line is that cars are the ones who fund the roads as it is and aren't going anywhere. What we need to focus on IMO are more realistic solutions like fuel efficient, environmentally friendly vehicles.
