Anyone got one of these? I'm gonna get one, like an itrip to plug into my mini ipod so that I can play my mp3s by tuning into my car stereo. There's a really stupid rule in the uk though about it being illegal because it's broadcasting without a licence.
"The rules state that UK broadcasters have unique access to the frequencies they have licensed, and that, say the RA, means the iTrip can't transmit on frequencies already taken in the FM band. A M Micro can't license a section of the band and dedicate it to iTrip users because all the available FM frequencies have already been licensed.
Cost isn't an issue - it's only £339 ($548) a year for VHF stations with under 100,000 listeners. That said, anyone using the iTrip would also need to cough up £500 ($808) a year to the Performing Rights Society to cover royalty payments to artists whose music is broadcast."
As if I would ever get caught in my car :icon27:
It would be cool though to tune into virgin radio, walk into a virgin megastore and completely fuck up their radio station.
mp3 player FM transmitters
Friend of mine has a transmitter he got off ebay for £10 and plugged it into his archos mp3 player. Tuned it into his car stereo and it actually sounded really good. But the beauty of it is there's no wires like with one of those cassettes, which I have anyway.Bdw3 wrote:Better quality with a cassett adaptor.![]()
Well since you mentioned about cassette adaptors, I've been reading about it at ipodlounge.com and most people also recommend a cassette for better sound quality. They say that transmitters can be good or bad depending on the congestion on the airwaves and that cassettes are more reliable. I dunno, I'll still try out an itrip I think. Nope, can't buy them in any shops around here because they're illegal, but maybe in central london though where all the electronics shops are. I can buy transmitters on the net very easily though.

Hard wired FM modulators are very good. I picked up the Highly Recommended Audiovox FMM100A on eBay for about $24.00 US
It goes inline on the antenna line and cuts the signal when in use, no interferance at all. Needs Power, ground and RCA inputs. The sound Quality is equal or better to the cassette adapter.

Works on 89.1 or 88.7 I have good signal stations on both of these and it still cuts them silent and plays my music nice and clear. As with the cassette you can hear a faint hiss at high volumes.

Kenwood makes a headunit with an iPod adapter that actually controlls the iPod from the head unit. You can hide the iPod away completely, here is a link to the adapter.
