You know, as much flack as Peterson gets I just don't get it. I feel like someone got offended by his stance of freedom of speech and it's since spiraled into this weird thing where he's a racist women hating incel. I've listened to a few of his interviews and he seems to have a pretty educated view on a lot of subjects so I'm not sure where this is coming from as I actually agree with what he's saying. I think the uproar around Peterson revolves around him pushing back against learning institutions deciding to restrict referring to a students gender which is honestly pretty fucking retarded and goes against the concept of free speech.

It's quite easy to look intellectually superior against people like that if you speak softly and remain calm. His entire shtick revolves around using the bible and corporate capitalism as core tenets of a utopian society while claiming North America has been taken over by socialism and the extreme left when it's actually neo-liberalism.

TLDR; both neo-liberals and neo-conservatives are equally retarded and regressive and I hope they finally just kill each other off.

I agree with the cult following statements but I've never heard any bible thumping from him. He mostly talks about psychology and concepts which he doesn't necessarily agree with like Marxism.

He regularly makes biblical lectures where the underlying theme is that the bible is the foundation of western ideals: democracy, glorious capitalism, freedom, and justice. He doesn't have the balls to criticize the bible or denounce western religion because he knows it's a key demographic of his cult following. I'd respect him more if he came out and said all religions are regressive and poisonous but that's never going to happen.

I've watched a lot of his online lectures and practically every interview and debate involving him because I was initially on his side when he was opposing the neo-liberal PC groupthink. Then I realized he's a corporate capitalism apologist who pretends to care about inequality but is fervently in support of the system that depends on mass inequality to exist.

That being said, none of this matters if we don't turn our focus to climate change instead. We also won't see any progress made towards ensuring the survival of our species as long as corporatocracy rules the world.

Nah, we're doomed. I think our generation may be the last one to see a comfortably hospitable planet. Climate change has a lot of momentum behind it, and even if we stop burning all fossil fuel tomorrow, the planet is still going to cook.

Yeah... honestly that dude is super annoying, the announcer, not Peterson. Here's my take on that. The podcast guy is pretty one sided on his opinion, he completely takes Peterson's point about the far left being a problem out of context. I don't think he's saying equality of outcome is necessarily a bad thing but rather that enforcing equality of outcome in a draconian way is. I've heard him say this repeatedly that the middle ground between the far left and the far right is really where you want to be but no one discusses this because highlighting the extremes is where the media gets the most attention and he's correct. With the far right you get totalitarianism and the far left you get communism. Both ideas might be good on paper but they're terrible in practice. However that doesn't mean we should give up on equality of outcome or that people shouldn't have access to basic needs which is where these guys doing the podcast pretty much lose all credibility because they want to make it sound like Peterson is saying that's bad but he isn't, they're just putting words in his mouth.

Yeah that's the type I picture when I think of his supporters. I have a friend on facebook I'm sure is a huge fan of his, I lambast the guy every time he posts something because it's so fucking stupid. His last post was something about a 50 year old writer that only dates girls in his 30's. I'm like ok, kudos to that guy, who cares if it's consenting adults but then he had to add how women 50 years old had no sexual value... I really felt like reminding him that he's 40 and has no sexual value to women in general, let alone a 50 year old one but that age isn't the reason why...

Either way, I get his stance on monogamy, I'm not saying I necessarily agree with it but I'm not exactly against it either. He's not wrong that a society with a family hierarchy consisting of a mother and father is probably better for the kids. I can't really refute that but yeah, it's not set in stone, you can grow up in a single parent household and turn out alright too.

That's sort of my point, this vocal minority is enacting policies in universities that explicitly limit what teachers and staff are allowed to say/use in terms of gender pronouns when referring to students. Basically limiting what a teacher is allowed to say. I think that's foolish and this is what Peterson is referring to when he's talking about this topic. That whole concept is from the extreme left and he's against it because it limits free speech. That isn't to say the left doesn't have a point but that you need to dial down how we as a society should enforce those values on other people. It's a pretty reasonable point of view.

My original point here was that I don't get the hate toward Peterson by a lot of people, especially the left. His shit gets taken out of context, a bunch of incels end up worshiping him because of this out of context bullshit and yeah, that video doesn't really change my opinion of him. It's just more left wing nuts taking shit out of context, inserting ideas he never said into them and then putting up a shit video of themselves freaking out and making fun of someone.
