What the #$*! Do We Know!?

Post by implicit »

Has anyone seen this movie?

It’s sort of shitty, but does anyone know if there is any truth to it? I mean the movie is literally suggesting that consciences can control matter.

My mind can only control matter that makes up other people - even then it's fucking exhausting and hardly word the effort.

my brother saw this and was disgusted with the misinformation advocated in this movie (he's about to get his Masters in quantumphysics).

so no, theres hardly - if any - truth in this movie

ofcourse, a lot of physics students went to see this movie. heres a nice quote that sums it up (from imdb)
My friend, also in physics, and I counted 3 facts during the course of this movie. But they were presented in the most misleading manner I've EVER SEEN.

Yeah I'm reading the imdb board about the movie and sounds like complete rubish.

I thought the neural peptitde brain emotion stuff was interesting, that new age lady who comes in and talks about erections was stupid, and the water molecule stuff, and so were some of the other people, but they introduce them all is if they're experts in the field

According to the imdb boards the water molecule was in a frozen state and not in liquid state, which the movie forgot to mention.

1. Has this been proven to be some kind of hoax?
As far as I know, nobody's actually taken the steps necessary to prove this particular experiment to be a hoax. However, the notion of clustered water has been taken on and shown to be a hoax. What I can tell you for certain is that there were certain parts of this experiment that were misrepresented. The water was not "left out overnight." The water in this experiment was frozen, which, as we all know, will form ice crystals. The photographs were not liquid water, but rather ice. I also have a notion that the photographs were not of the water's molecular structure. The fact that, in one of the photographs, you could see the label and the writing on it is a good indicator.
2. If not are there any possible explainations for this?
Part of it is a natural phenomena and part of it is a researcher who wants to prove his point so much that he manipulates the results. Ice naturally forms crystals, no matter what, when it reaches the right temperature. However, Dr. Emoto did wrangle his findings a bit. He took one photograph or one crystal and discarded the rest of the water without photographing it. We only see what he wants us to see rather than presenting ALL of the evidence. Also, what's the big deal? Water forms more beautiful crystals when it freezes? So what? What bearing does this have on our daily lives? And keep in mind, this experiment hasn't been attempted with liquid water or at a more molecular level.
3. Are there any other experiments that have duplicated this??
To the best of my knowledge, no. This has never been duplicated in a controlled double blind study. The James Randi foundation has offered Dr. Emotion 1 million dollars to duplicate his experiment in proper scientific fashion. Dr. Emoto has either declined or ignored the invitation.
