"Sony seem to be turning their back on the old console economics of cycles," said Ed Barton, principal analyst at the consultancy Ovum.
"They used to get the core fans in first, and then really make big money when the price of the hardware dropped and appealed to the expanded market.
"Now, they are giving the hardcore gamers a reason to upgrade early."
I remember when console tards used to claim they were superior to PC gaming because they could use the same shitbox for 8 years. Now they're proud of being able to buy the same overpriced brick every year

The consumer market since I was kid seems that have gotten even more stupid, which when considering it was pretty bad is quite shocking. Fucking phones and disposable shit.

Pretty much sums it up

Aye pretty much. It's something the neighbors used to do with getting new cars and new double glazing n shit, business men with watches or American Psycho with business cards. Keeping up with the trend kind of thing. It's good that it drives technology like but it's still retarded, I think the dawn of the mobile phone paved the way for it to be so common place though.
I always remember it prevalent in the car industry though - they'd try anything to come up with a USP to get buyers to bite and trade in. Once they offered financing (Citroen ?) they could shift disposable shit by the truckload and just carry on the charge for the next upgrade by keeping a rolling debt.

A single GTX 1080 is twice the price of a console and can't consistently get 60fps on the latest games at 4K on superior hardware which means console idiots are paying premium for compressed texture packs and a locked framerate thinking it's actual 4K. Gimped graphics aside, the majority of these so-called 4K remaster and re-releases aren't even worth playing but omg 4K 4K 4K!!!
Consoles are to gaming what religion is to civilization.

Yeah but car manufacturers intentionally hold back the tech so that they can spread it out in yearly releases. Remember your 2015 Shitbox 5000? The 2016 model has the horn on the dashboard! Remember your 2016 Shitbox 5000? The 2017 model has the horn in the middle of the steering wheel! Hey, throw out your Shitbox 5000 because the Shitbox 6000 is here and it's got smart windshield wipers! Hell, Nvidia gimps their top of the line video cards just so the ultra-super double-the-price version can seem more powerful in comparison.
I know it's a business and they'll continue to thrive this way as long as morons keep supporting them. I think it's unethical and leads to massive amounts of waste and needless production.
