Fear The Walking Dead
Re: Fear The Walking Dead
I'm wondering if you have to watch Walking Dead to appreciate this Fear the Walking Dead. Or is it a stand alone show? I haven't watched any of the WD...

Watched it and wasn't impressed. It seemed to move really slow, the acting seemed forced at times and I found myself wishing the 1.5 hr episode was over at the 45 min mark. However there was a lot of necessary character introduction/development. So I'll give it a few more trys before I make a decision as to whether or not I'll continue watching.

Nice to see this new series continues the tradition of killing off black characters.
Has nobody on the writing staff even mentioned that black guys seem to die with alarming regularity in Walking Dead shows?

Re: Fear The Walking Dead
I thought it was pretty good for a first episode. Of course there's a lot of character introduction and the pace is a tad slower than TWD, but that allows them to set up a more tense atmosphere.
One thing that confuses me though is that I've seen multiple people refer to the first episode as being 90 minutes long. I downloaded it but got a complete, rounded off episode of 1 hr and 3 minutes. Did I miss something? Or do people include commercial breaks in the running time of an episode or something? If so, lol at 30 minutes of commercials embedded in 1 hr of actual television

Re: Fear The Walking Dead
Looked it up on IMDB and it's indeed "only" 65 minutes, which means that Gramps has been watching a minute of commercials for every 2 minutes of TV show, which instantly explains why he's bitching about the pace being "slow moving". You cannot seriously assess the pace of a TV series or movie if 1/3rd of the time you're watching commercial breaks. That shit fucks up pace like nothing else.Eraser wrote:One thing that confuses me though is that I've seen multiple people refer to the first episode as being 90 minutes long.
Re: Fear The Walking Dead
So episode 2 shows us two more black characters succumb to zombification. That's racist!
Anyway, I'm enjoying this spin off so far. I repeatedly shout at the screen though: "Shoot em in the head! Amputate his arm! Don't make so much noise!! Don't you noobs know anything?!"

I've watched plenty of TV with and without commercials, and still remained interested. The first episode would have been too long and slowly paced without commercials.Eraser wrote:Looked it up on IMDB and it's indeed "only" 65 minutes, which means that Gramps has been watching a minute of commercials for every 2 minutes of TV show, which instantly explains why he's bitching about the pace being "slow moving". Quit trolling. You're not bright or funny enough, with or without commercials.

Re: Fear The Walking Dead
I'm not trolling. I'm genuinely surprised that someone's willing to sit through 30 mins of commercial breaks to see 60 minutes of TV and is apparently so apathetic about this that they don't even see how ridiculous this is anymore.
I am not completely unfamiliar with commercial breaks within TV shows either, so I know they are incredibly annoying because they completely break up the immersion into a movie or whatever you're watching. They are one of the reasons I barely watch commercial TV stations anymore.
That isn't a stab at you personally, Gramps, but at anyone that watches television this way. You just happen to be part of that group.

Re: Fear The Walking Dead
That fact is, I don't watch much TV and haven't for years. The only show I traditionally watch is TWD. So I thought I might try FTWD, expecting a TWD caliber show. That didn't happen. However, TWD is filled with commercials and still paces very well while remaining interesting. But I guess that's not your point. You're taking a shot at the idea that people actually watch appointment TV with commercials. Like there is something wrong with them because they're not so wrapped up in TV that they've got to prerecord shows because they have to watch other prerecorded shows before the next show is prerecorded. I guess if a person watched 100's of our of TV a week with commercials he'd be slightly more of a douch bag loser than the hopelss Tivo idiot. Either way they'd both need to get a life.

Re: Fear The Walking Dead
Why do you insist on making everything so black/white. As if someone that doesn't like watching commercials automatically is a no-life binge-watching loser. Making that comparison really shows you have no real arguments and deep down inside know I'm right.

I didn't know there was a right or wrong here. In MY opinion, if you're recording thousands of hours of TV to watch at a later time you're wasting a lot of time.
You gonna be okay?
