First workout in a couple months is out of the way now...
That one is always the hardest. I need some pics of duhard and sysop to hang on my wall for motivation. Can you post me some here?
Seriously, though....its a bitch and a half to get the ball rolling again. Glad I don't have the metabolism that lets me get fat when I stop working out...
Off to do my injections now. Later.

Been thinking about working out the past few weeks, I'm starting to look like a ten year old spelling 'B' champ, and the g/f says I look like a dried up prune.
Maybe I'll just take some roids like sir tnf.
Motivation:
edit: oh wow, didn't see that. First one on google I found. :icon32:

roids are for fucking losers. I have no respect for those who use steriods for the sole purpose of getting "huge". Workout natuarally or don't do it at all.
On a side note, i've re-joined the gym 3 weeks ago after 9 months of working out by myself in the basement, and wow, i know what i've been missing. Couple days ago I did legs, could barely walk down the stairs to get out of the gym, once i was in my car, i could barely get out. It hurts, but damn does it ever feel great knowing you gave yourself a shit kicking at the gym

Define the lines between what should make a supplement not OK.Scarface wrote:because they're artificially stimulating their body to produce more testosterone then they would naturally. And you're right, it is up to them what they do to their bodies. I have more respect for the guy who builds using a natural supliment as opposed to an artificial one.
Aside from protein powder (which is pretty much just supplying building blocks and calories), virtually every 'supplement' on the market is designed to give your body 'unnatural' results - results it couldn't get otherwise.
Steroids are really no different - except for the fact that they actually work. There are dangers, of course.
But give me a list of those natural supplements you have respect for. (this is a philosophical question in some ways...)

Actually, it is 'supplements' that advertise their ability to do this...Scarface wrote:because they're artificially stimulating their body to produce more testosterone then they would naturally. Like sys said, some anabolics wil suppress your testosterone output. Other drugs will slow muscle breakdown (more of an anti-catabolic role) or increase the rate of protein synthesis (or a bit of all of the above.)
That's why you should take HCG when you are coming off the sauce, to kick your body's leutenizing hormone production back up.
It's kind of hard for me to define my stance on the use of steroids, since i'm not completely educated on the subject ( I have been reading up on all supliments uses however ). Increasing testoterone levels seems like a cheat for getting big, fast, and with far greater risks then if just using proper nutrition with protein suppliments

Re: First workout in a couple months is out of the way now..
Nice, I just started up again as well, I'm 3 weeks in and not feeling too much pain after a good workout. I'm only at 80% of my max from last year. Hopefully in a month I'll be back where I was. I really missed the gym in the 8 month brake I tooktnf wrote:That one is always the hardest. I need some pics of duhard and sysop to hang on my wall for motivation. Can you post me some here?

What you are talking about would be trying to hit your fast twitch fibers.mjrpes wrote:hey, i got a weight lifting related question...
is there any benefits to doing a set that emphasizes so called "burst strength"? For example, you do a benchpress that is set to 50-75% of you max, and you aim for lifting the weight as fast and full of speed as you can.
I won't say there isn't a benefit to explosive movements that really hit fast twitch fibers (take a look at a sprinter's physique vs. a marathon runner's), but I think the risk of injury when using free weights is something you really have to consider. Even with 50% of your max, trying to lift as fast as you can is, in many cases, a recipe for injury. My opinion - mix your training up. Use explosive movements moderately, and do them either with machines or with weights you can control very easily.
I've read that fast twitch fibers have greater potential for growth, and I've read that slow negative reps are superior for strength...and I've experienced decent results with both, so I don't think you should put all your eggs in one basket, so to speak.
So, to answer your question - yes, there are some benefits to fast, explosive movements (specifically in regards to the power you can probably generate), but I think they should be used in moderation with weights unless you are pretty advanced in your lifting technique and ability.
Plyometrics, on the other hand, are very useful for athletic training and don't utilize weights - and use fast movements.
