Game of Thrones actors do Game of Thrones in 30 seconds:

There's no spoilers in there at all, don't worry.

Yeah, as always, I'm pumped for this season.

Such a fucking good show. And I don't watch a lot of TV, so this is a real treat for me when it comes back on...

It's been 7 years since I've subscribed to TV. The only thing I use it for is NHL Gamecenter, Xbox and movies off XBMC. The thought of sitting down and channel surfing through endless commercials and other shit unworthy of watching just disgusts me.

Yeah same. I got a friend I normally chill with for a bit before we head out and he's always either watching some fucking show about a bunch of fat bearded Americans trying to compare the sizes of the tuna they almost caught or a bunch of fat ugly Americans building ugly homes for ugly fat people to be ugly and fat in.

Fuck. Off.

Indeed. I have inlaws who seemingly are able to watch *everything* that's on tv at all times.
Why? Why would you want to 'stay up to date' with people cutting coupons all day? And then proceed to tell me about the savings person x in city y was able to scrounge up?

Get fucked.

Oh yeah that's the only thing I hate more than people who spend all day watching dumb TV shows: people who act like they're somehow enlightened and far superior than others by virtue of not owning a TV.

TVs always on for me, even just for background noise. News, music stations or Top Gear / Star Trek / BSG / Firefly / GoT etc repeats, some of the docu channels n all. Never really watch much on it, not unless I'm sitting down and watching a movie / TV show I actually wanna see which is rare.

Don't see much point in subscribing to Sky / Cable or someshit n all- not if you have the internet which is what I pay attention to if I have a choice.

Been years and years since i got rid of my TV too, never looked back either. PC + Beamer + reasonably good sound system = win.

The only times i regret not having a TV is when i want to watch live footy matches - usually have to head to a bar or a friends place to watch those. There's sites out there that stream that sort of thing, but the quality is horrendous and i've not been able to find a proper source, so meh.

That's pretty shitty, I assumed the top Euro leagues all had some kind of subscription-based streaming service like NHL Gamecenter.

Nah, Murdoch's bought the rights to virtually all sport in Europe. In the UK thanks to the license fee and legislation surrounding it, a certain amount of games have to be shown on the BBC. But otherwise, you want sport, you get Sky.

Personally, I can't understand how Sky managed to pull the wool over people's eyes in the first place. It's substantially more expensive than paying the license fee (which you have to pay in addition if you watch any live TV on the BBC), and yet unlike the Beeb, you still get advertising.

But I guess you really shouldn't underestimate the stupidity of Joe Public.

What Matt said. There's a very select amount of Champions League matches that are shown on public tv (they have a pretty proper livestream too) but the rights for the Dutch competition and the UEFA cup are in the hands of FOX afaik. FOX makes you pay through the arse too, since they took over they simply raised the prices by 50%. And the system is set up silly, if you want to watch a match in a foreign competition legally i believe there's no alternative but to buy a very expensive subscription that allows you to see all the games from that competition. Things might have changed since i last bothered to look into this so they might have changed that.... dunno.

They're a bit behind the times i think; i'd honestly have no problems paying a few euro's to be able to stream a live match of my choosing, but unless i'm mistaken there's simply no option to do that. Thank god i don't actually care enough about footy to let it bother me all that much... plus watching a game in a bar has a certain charm of it's own that cannot be reproduced at home :)

Well there kinda is, you just need to sub to Sky Sports :P, and BT Sport but they only have a handful of games.

There was a story a while back of a UK Pub owner subbing a Greek TV channel to watch the games live in her pub, seeing as Sky charge stupid amounts for a Sky subscription that'll have a large audience. She ended up winning the case because free trade within the EU. Pretty sure Sky managed tp stitch up the loophole though as I would've thought other pubs would've jumped on the bandwagon.

la liga clubs control their own rights which would allow you to watch individual games, your subscription will be directly with the club and they sell them to cable studios n all that too. The downside to this is obviously the wealth is only kept by the bigger and richer clubs without it being distributed through the league.

I've started using something called Acestream lately, seems to be great quality without much buffering, used to use Sopcast too and works in a similiar way. If you look around you can usually find a stream that's better than good, in the English leagues anyway. Guessing you're looking for Dutch streams ?, Ajax ?

When I was younger, I thought pay-per-view was an awful, evil idea.
But the older I get, if I'm going to be paying to watch TV at all, I'm going to want to pay only for what I want and not anything else. And I suspect that's going to be the way most kids are going to think too. Nobody in TV offers that kind of service yet. Not even Netflix. They're all obsessed with the subscription model, which is at its heart, dishonest. Want to watch one program on our network? Tough shit, you have to pay for a whole package of channels just to watch that one thing.

Gabe's statement about offering a better service than the pirates?
It applies to TV too, but most networks are too established and outdated in their thinking. They don't even recognise the threat correctly. They punish individuals without considering why people turn to piracy in the first place.

I would pay money per episode to watch Game of Thrones.
HBO don't offer that service.
What am I to do?
