As much as I like Carmack I think Sony probably has a bit more cash to invest into R&D than a 21 year old kid and a famous game dev.

You can't really think a game Dev with hardly any global income can stand up to a giant like sony when it comes to rnd, can you?

I thought I read that the PS4 was able to handle 60fps and it was the Xbox One that was forced at 30 along with being unable to do 1080p...

Either way that isn't an indicator of how advanced their VR tech will be.

Personally I think the Occulus Rift is taking too long to get produced. They should have had a consumer version by now before Sony had the chance to develop one.

Early bird is going to get the worm this time around.

The new Rift headsets will be available on the Oculus website for preorder starting right now, March 19, at 8AM Pacific. The headsets are estimated to ship in July of 2014. They'll be made available on a first-come, first-serve basis

Sony seems to be targeting PS4 exclusively while Occulus Rift will be available on multiplatform PC's. Specs are comparable between the two, Sony has higher resolution, Rift has higher FoV and probably lower latency. I don't see any actual overlap in their target markets, and both companies could benefit from each other's experience and R&D.

It's a logical assumption at this point, when they're pitching 1080p VR on a system incapable of running the framerate necessary, even with an insufficient FoV.
K, point taken. I'd say from the two companies sony has made a much better job at bringing the ps4 to market so I'd expect them to do a good job at any options to follow. Fact is Move was a great bit of kit totally let down by software vendors.

Ps, I don't think the xbox is ready even now. It plays games (after 3gigs of updates) but won't do all the other great stuff my 360 did. Wankers.

OR seems more impressive... but the larger screen + greater fov, would make for weaker dot pitch....but the imersiveness might make up for it so not sure
