But I'm going to try catching a few spoiler-free playthrough vids to see if I'd enjoy it, reviews aren't everything.

that is true if they were talking about subjective issues.
broken AI, insultingly easy puzzles and a painful amount of loading screens are things you can't really ignore.

I have watched a couple of reviews and read a couple, too. Honestly, the game looks pretty fun to me. Some of the reviews harp on things that I think are bizarre. The Kotaku review, over and over, bashed the game because when you entered a new area, the door behind you automatically closed. The environment and the gameplay (contextual control inconsistency notwithstanding) both continue to receive praise, so I am considering buying this. But hey, I like Final Fantasy IIjp and D3 (both of them you're thinking of) so my tastes are maybe a little weird.
