Virgin net are giving me a free speed upgrade

Post by DRuM »

Pretty cool. Virgin net who I've been with for some time on a 512Kbps conn, emailed me and are upgrading customers to 1 Mbps for free. I just clicked the upgrade button and they're gonna change it for me over the next few days. I pay £24.99 a month and stayed with them because I get 20gb download per month. There probably are better deals out there, but for now, this is not so bad.

hmmm, I was never told I have a limit on my downloads...if so I've prolly gone over it already this month.

Do all ISP's have this, I'm on Cox and have noticed many of you are as well...anyone ever got a call from 'em or been shut off b/c of it? :|

From 3 down/384 up to 4 down/512 up and from 30 gb a month to 40 gb a month.

@bork[e]: I'm also on cox. I don't think I've ever gone over, so no warnings.

Is there a way I can find out how much I download a month? I honestly don't think I even get close to 20gb, so it might be worth me downgrading to a cheaper package. Virgin do a package for £10 less a month with about 6 gb download. If I ring up virgin, think they should be able to tell me what I use on average?

i would check your billing. if they're limiting you, surely they have it graphed at least either online or on paper in your mail.

Use DU Meter.

And that deal still sucks drum. I pay £23 for UNLIMITED (done 30gb and they still don't care) 1mb, and also with an additoinal 10gb usage to Usenet which is worth £7 a month, free.

http://www.solo.pipex.com/ - its currently at £14 for 2 months then goes up to £23 if you should sign up (if you did want to switch I'll be happy to give you my referal code :D). The Solo packages are unlimited, the lite are limited but still great deals. Their also the biggest in the country.

Hmm, well either pipex and nildram sound good. Gonna have to say goodbye to virgin net I think.

aye, both really good companies :icon14:

switched to cable a while back because the local adsl exchange (that BT apparently bought from communist russia) is incapable of maintaining a decent connection to this part of town - but the service from nildram themselves was really good.

Nildram (owned by Pipex) have just introduced a cap in the day time; something like 50gb a month between 9am to 8pm the rest is uncapped. I'd go with pipex :D

I doubt that I've even come close to that. I think I'll monitor it for the next month and see what I actually do use.

Well 50gb is gonna be way more than enough, and if nildram are doing a 2Mbps connection I might seriously have to consider them.

Just got that. If there's a feature to show total bandwidth used I can't find it.
