Hello,
I've recently created a few dedicated servers for me and my friends to play on using my legit version of Quake 3 Gold, however i don't want to have to keep my portable cd-rom plugged into my gaming server just to avoid the servers from stopping because they notice the cd has gone.
Does anyone know how to disable this check?
I would buy the Steam version of the game but a) i already owe a copy of the game so why should i have too and b) i wish to run 1.16n no ghost servers and the Steam version will most likely always be patched to the latest 1.32 patch.
Any help on this disabling this annoying cd-check would be greatly appreciated!
Regards
Darkflame

Re: Disable dedicated server cd-check
There are far better alternatives out there than NoGhost (see Excessive Dawn and quake3e). Update Q3 and then download those then you'll be just fine. Afaik there's no way around the CD checking in 1.16.
Also: this thread has nothing to do with programming! Should be moved to Q3.

Re: Disable dedicated server cd-check
What themuffinman fails to mention is that since the 1.27 (or 1.29, can't remember which) point releases, id Software removed CD checking themselves. So updating to the latest 1.32 PR should solve that problem.
Also, I'm convinced that 1.32 doesn't solve your problem. What I still fail to understand, but do recognize, is that there's people who, for some impenetrable reason, absolutely swear by 1.16n and refuse to update to 1.32.

You can try the following :
set bot_enable 0
Should work but you can't add bots.
Although using the CD key might resolve the problem.
