New Quake 4 info + MP stuff
I think the upgrades will be SP only, it just makes sense to not have them in MP.
I dont mind reloading, in fact i like reloading in MP. But upgrading, lol, that wont work.
As for weapon/item dropping... It has to be there, that was a huge part of team play in the Q2 days.
ATM it seems like they have played to much halo and not enough Q2 though, so only time will tell...

Do you honestly think they care? Do you think they will let you do this? They are going for a realistic game with locational damage and everyday bob walking speeds.
Its not gonna be Quake 3, it will just ahve a lot more effort put into MP and have more players so its more frantic.
The only way they would allow it to be more like Q3 is if they had 2 sets of game for the MP and SP, like in EF1/2, but that was proven to not work very well at all.

Besides, if we can't do leet jumping and all the good q3 stuff then it's gonna blow big time and nobody but the skilless llamma ranchers will play it.
I dunno, remember Doom 3 was all about "hiding in the shadows, strategy and shit" where every move, every step, needed to be thought out in advance... YEAH. that happened. People just turned off shadows and walked about at 1mph.
Nobody knows what the speeds are gonna be like for sure, but its been said a few times it will be much slower paced, much more like doom 3 is in terms of movement...
And to be quite honest if i cant strafe jump or double jump in MP, i doubt i'll enjoy it...

Didn't you read the interview? They said the MP was going to be unlike Doom3 and based on Q3's MP. As far as the weapon-dropping; again they said they were making it like Q3 -- only the SP is based on Q2, so I can't imagine why they would put weapon-dropping in the MP. Q3's MP is better than Q2's, straight up, so why go messing with it more and trying to add a bunch of Q2 stuff in it?
From what I've heard, the MP will be more or less the same as Q3 - with the speed, the strafejumping and the bouncepads. They didn't say anything about secondary fire.
Imagine picking up the rocket launcher and having a great, Q3-style rocket launcher throughout half the map.
Then you pick up a box that keeps it the same, but now you can guide the rockets, because you'll need it for a certain part of the game you're coming up on.
It doesn't sound like 'right-click for alt-fire' like UT or anything.
