http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-19365616Prosecutors had called for him to be considered insane.
The five judges were unanimous in ruling that Breivik was sane.
He was convicted of terrorism and premeditated murder, and given the maximum sentence of 21 years' imprisonment.
However, that can be prolonged at a later date if he is deemed to remain a danger to society.

Re: Anders Behring Breivik sentenced to 21 years
Seems like a short sentence to me.
Re: Anders Behring Breivik sentenced to 21 years
Dats cause you ignant. That's the max sentence they can give there IIRC, with the option to extend his sentence parole hearing style when the time comes up, which they'll likely do forever.
Re: Anders Behring Breivik sentenced to 21 years
That.

I know it's the max. I looked it up after I read the article. I just find it ridiculous that it can be so short in that country for such crimes.EtUL wrote:Dats cause you ignant. You're missing the part where they won't let him go after the sentence is over.

No I didn't. I think he should be put to death, honestly.

I thought your Canadian cranial turret would have figured that out since that's how we Amurricans roll.
Re: Anders Behring Breivik sentenced to 21 years
How can they do that? Any links with more info, please?EtUL wrote:with the option to extend his sentence parole hearing style when the time comes up, which they'll likely do forever.

I did. Which is why I was wondering about the pussyfooting when clearly the guy was getting life but you suggested it was too short. p.s. if you kill him that's actually an even shorter sentence.+JuggerNaut+ wrote:I thought your Canadian cranial turret would have figured that out since that's how we Amurricans roll.
Anyway, no reason to play coy. Speak your mind.

It's similar to how someone here in Canada can be labeled a dangerous offender and held beyond sentence length.ToxicBug wrote:How can they do that? The guy who shot John Lennon was denied parole for the 7th time recently. He, like Breivik, will never be a free man again.

I don't understand how they could not feel he'd be a threat to society at any point during his sentence. I'd be curious to know how they "test" for that.
Re: Anders Behring Breivik sentenced to 21 years
indeed. you want him to suffer? dont kill him, keep him locked up.

To be blunt, it'd be nice if you people weren't blood-thirsty for a single minute. Maybe your country wouldn't suck so much.+JuggerNaut+ wrote:I thought your Canadian cranial turret would have figured that out since that's how we Amurricans roll.

He'll be behind bars for the rest of his life, safely removed from society. What's he going to do?+JuggerNaut+ wrote:I don't understand how they could not feel he'd be a threat to society at any point during his sentence. I'd be curious to know how they "test" for that.

This guy's acts were pretty extreme. I don't call that being blood-thirsty.GONNAFISTYA wrote:To be blunt, it'd be nice if you people weren't blood-thirsty for a single minute. You're right. He'll never be in the presence of another human again.Ryoki wrote:He'll be behind bars for the rest of his life, safely removed from society. He'll be in the presence of guards, inmates and the occasional lawyer. But point taken, he'll likely forment a revolution and those people will become his pretorian guard.
srlsy, wtf?

Re: Anders Behring Breivik sentenced to 21 years
Some Norwegian guy. Interesting comment."In the safest, most boring country, the worst lone gunman shooting happens. The worst in the world, in history. But it will not make our country worse. The safe, boring democracy will supply him with a defense lawyer as is his right. He will not get more than 21 years in prison as is the maximum extent of the law. Our democracy does not allow for enough punishment to satisfy my need for revenge, as is its intention. We will not become worse, we will be better. We lived in a land where this is possible, even easy. And we will keep living in a land where this is possible, even easy. We are open, we are free and we are together. We are vulnerable by choice. And we will keep on like that, that’s how we want to live. We will not be worse because of the worst. We must be good because of the best."
Re: Anders Behring Breivik sentenced to 21 years
Prisons in northern Europe are all about isolation, you don't let inmates get together in crowded spaces or segregate them by gang affiliation / ethnic background. We generally like our prison populations quiet and controllable, it's crazy, i know.+JuggerNaut+ wrote:I was talking physical harm, not mindfucking others for his own motives.

And he's not some insane killer, he's a political terrorist. People like Breivnik don't make shanks out of toothbrushes and stab the nearest person, they read books.

Re: Anders Behring Breivik sentenced to 21 years
They gave him everything they could and he will never be free again.
I found it interesting that he smiled as the verdict was read out, like he had won. Like he expected it to be the maximum sentence and that he felt it both unjust and pathetic at the same time.
He always said he should be allowed to go free or be killed. Nothing inbetween. His smile was one of knowing, one of sorrow for his country (that it is so "weak") and ultimately one of amusement.
I am slightly inclined to think that he has proved his point. Admittidly his point was fucking retarded and nothing more than right wing extremism, but he proved it none the less.
